Disappointing Experience, Not Worth the Price
My boyfriend and I found this spot after realizing the restaurant we originally wanted to visit required reservations. We always love trying local places while traveling, and after reading the positive reviews, we were excited to give it a go.
The atmosphere was nice, and the outdoor seating was great since the weather was perfect. Our waitress was friendly, though a bit inexperienced, but that didn’t bother us much. Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown.
We started with the chips and queso, and honestly, it was a huge disappointment. The queso tasted like the processed cheese you get at a stadium, and it was served cold. For $9.99, the portion was incredibly small.
For our entrees, things didn’t get any better. My boyfriend ordered the beef fajita enchiladas, and what arrived was ground beef wrapped in cold tortillas that weren’t properly heated. He also asked for queso on top, which was the same cheap, cold cheese we got with the chips. I ordered the poblano enchiladas with chicken, and they were served cold. The chicken was soggy and unappetizing, and I couldn’t even finish it. The rice and beans didn’t taste fresh, and the rice was especially disappointing—tasted like it came from a grocery store ready-to-eat section.
The waitress was kind enough to take the enchiladas off our check, but I was still charged for the side of rice. As someone who’s worked in the food industry, I would have expected the poblano meal to be comped entirely since I didn’t eat it out of courtesy.
To top it all off, the margaritas, while decent, were small and overpriced at $12 each. Our total ended up being $60 for two small margaritas and two mediocre meals, which wasn’t worth it in our opinion.
Overall, we would not recommend this place. It felt like the food came from a grocery store and was quickly thrown together. For the price, we expected much better quality. There are plenty of other local spots that are more deserving of your...

We did have to wait a bit to be seated as there was no one at the entrance. As I proceeded to walk around and snap pics is when we were acknowledged and quickly seated near the bar area.
What was immediately appealing to this restaurant was the ambiance - beautifully art displayed and a cute place for a photo op.
Our server was wonderful, however, I don’t recall his name and he didn’t have a name tag. He was attentive and was able to quickly answer any questions we had and more than helpful in directing us to parts of the menu we were looking for.
We tried a margarita flight and a house margarita (happy hour). Flight had passion fruit (least fav), strawberry (fav), sangria swirl (2nd fav), and mango (which was okay - the most artificially flavored one. All were beautifully dressed with chamoy and tajin and the house was requested to be this way (instead of salt).
Beef enchiladas - both kiddos chose this plate and there were no complaints. Lots of flavorful sauce and heaps of meat and cheese. Not spicy and the rice and beans were tasty and not missing anything.
Fried fish tacos - warm, perfectly fried, not greasy and lots of fresh ingredients AND the corn tortillas were just like my grandmas! Handmade, warm, and delicious. The only lacking part on these tacos was there could have been a sauce to bring it all together and add a little moisture. If there way, I didn’t see or taste it. A lime added to the plate to squeeze through would have been good but they were still great, regardless. Enchiladas verdes - tomatillo sauce was good, not spicy and the food was delivered hot and very fresh.
All in all, wonderful experience, great service, and a beautiful setting. When we come back to San Antonio, we will certainly be making another stop in, definitely to try the...
Read moreWent there for an early dinner the Thursday before Christmas. Business was a little slow, as you might imagine, but the service and the food were excellent. This looks like a more expensive place, but it's really not - we split a bottle of wine, each had an entree, and shared a dessert for under $50. The chef is from Mexico City, and the food is Mexican, not Tex-Mex. I had Enchiladas Aztecas, cheese enchiladas with queso fresco and a delicious guajillo sauce , my wife had pork with the same sauce. Rice and beans were delicious, as well as the potatoes that came with my dish. Really tasty food and reasonable prices - hard to ask for more. Oh yeah - every friendly staff. Will definitely go back.
UPDATE: It was a while before we went back, just because there are other good places to eat in SA. Recently hit it again after several drinks, then tried it again today in far more sober condition. Today’s visit confirms what we remembered from before - excellent food. I know Mexican food is a matter of taste, some like Panchitos, some don’t (me), but I think anyone would recognize how good this food is. I had the Chile Rellono with picadillo instead of cheese, the flavor of the picadillo really complemented the pepper, the batter, and the cheese. Wonderful. Mi espousa had the chicken breast with vegetables and a sauce, also excellent. Tres Leches cake for dessert was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had, and I like dessert. Three really different things, all excellent, unique, and really good - that suggests to me they have a really well-trained and talented chef. I’ll be going back to try pretty much everything on the menu at some point, since we haven’t had a...
