Everyone we met at this new eatery was very friendly and engaging and unfortunately, this is where the positives stop. On arriving you’ll find that parking is an issue because the adjacent parking lot is shared public parking. This puts you in competition with the wine bar next door as well as locals coming to walk the dog at the metro park behind this location. There are maybe 20 spots, so if you choose to come here, I’d plan on parking a few blocks away and walking in. Upon entering the room to be seated for dinner on a Thursday, I was assaulted by the amount of noise in the dining area. I could barely hear my wife sitting next to me and it was off putting. It wasn’t the healthy, low key buzz of a busy eatery, but more like locked in a room with someone trying in vain to learn to play a clarinet. Not sure what the fix would be, but if you have any type of hearing issue -you’ve been warned. Prices are on-par with any steak house. My rib eye was $45 and came with two sides. Wife had a similar steak and sides for about the same price. Food: I ordered a Caesar salad, and it arrived sans dressing and with croutons that would be better described as sawed-off chunks of a broom handle. Salad was warm and wilted. Nothing was crisp but the broom handle chunks. Waitress took the salad back for a remake with more dressing, but it was only marginally better and inedible, so I pushed it aside. My entrée was served with a cold baked potato, cold brussels sprouts, and a poorly cooked, barely warm, ribeye. I ordered medium rare. Steak came to me medium well and dried out. My wife also received warm steak, properly cooked to medium well, and cold side dishes, including some scallops that were probably best not eaten. (Note: side dishes were not supposed to be cold) Conclusion: I understand that they’ve only been open about a month and that they are still ironing out the staff in the kitchen. This location is Gunselman’s attempt to have a more “upscale” restaurant with a more eclectic menu, and I get it. Because the restaurant has a small number of tables, I had higher expectations for the food. Getting the food to the customer hot should be a priority. I think that if you cannot do the basics, upscaling might not be a good plan. Baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, and steaks should all arrive at my table tasting like they were freshly cooked – not like they’d been sitting around in your kitchen on a counter for an hour. For the $150 that I spent here for the two of us to have dinner – I feel like I got ripped off. It is totally inexcusable to serve cold entrees. In my opinion, Gunselman’s upscale experiment is a fail and I recommend that you give this...
Read moreWent her for a anniversary dinner and it was enjoyable but not with out some frustration, when we arrived trying to find a parking spot is a CHORE there is just so much happening in that small area parking is a premium to say the least. So I dropped my wife off at the door and k went up the street to find a parking spot, when I walked in they had our reservation ready for us no waiting for that but I thought it was very strange that the hostess said to follow her and she takes us outside to the patio, and that would have been ok but the weather was HOT HUMID and raining/ thunderstorms and we really didn’t want to sit outside and be uncomfortable. So I told her that we’d much rather prefer to be inside and that was not an issue at all with them as she took us to an empty table inside. The service was very prompt in the beginning waters bread oil the whole 9 lol the menu was small but that was fine we got what we came for STEAKS right, food came out VERY FAST for 6:30 on a Saturday and was excellent steak was delicious and the amount of onions & mushrooms they give you is HUGE but the sweet potatoes were on the smaller side but they aren’t the star there so it’s not to big of a deal but worth mentioning. So I said service started off strong but after we got our food it really slowed down so slow that i ran out of water and my wife’s was a sip away from being out as well. After we finished our meals the server came back around and we got our bill and she was quick to handle and return it back to me, service was good just became a little slow near the end but they all were very friendly and it was nice to see what I believe to me a manager out checking tables and helping his staff that’s a true leader there! All in all we definitely liked it and will return we want to try the PUB downstairs and go back for steaks...
Read moreMade a reservation to take my cousin out for their birthday, none of us had been before but were curious to try it out. FYI, the parking situation is terrible.
When we first sat down, one of the employees was getting us water and was attempting to make small talk, but she wasn’t speaking loudly enough for the whole table to hear her and she was asking us questions about what we may want to order, but then when we asked a question, she said, oh I don’t know things about the menu, your server will be over shortly.
Our server came over shortly after and it was clear she was having a hard time hearing us and we were having a hard time hearing her too. Mind you, most of our party are not hearing impaired and it was so difficult to hear anything in there, let alone have a conversation with your own party. The menu is small and also contains items that they also sell at the tavern. Did not give off the impression by the menu, decor, volume inside the restaurant or the service that this is a place where each meal is running you around $50 on average.
We ordered the salmon, a filet and the veal Marsala special. The salmon was requested to be cooked medium, and was overdone. The veal Marsala was overly sweet and served with a side of pasta that was completely undressed. Mixing it with whatever Marsala sauce was available wasn’t an option since it was too sweet. The veal was also overly breaded and very tough. Seemed like it was from a freezer. The filet was cooked to the desired doneness and was tasty.
I also understand table touches are a thing, but for people to come by immediately after the food is delivered and ask how it tastes or if the steak looks like it is done to the degree you wanted is a bit much.
Overall, this restaurant is just ok, and you’re paying a lot of money...
