First, let me say: I really hope the owner of the restaurant reads these reviews. I would hate it if I were a business owner and my employees ruined my business without me knowing about it until it was too late.
My experience- My GF and I stopped in for lunch a couple of weeks back. The reviews weren't bad and it was close by. Boy, what a mistake!
I love sushi and I love variety so I ordered three different sushi rolls. We also ordered some stir fry something (odd they have Chinese but we gave it a shot to mix it up)
All three sushi rolls looked the same, had the same tempura dusting on the outside, etc. The first roll was o.k. We really couldn't tell what it was to be honest. It just tasted like a plain tuna/cream cheese type of discount roll ( as did the others). With on exception- one of the rolls was bad. I don’t' mean that I don't care for certain types of fish like some may, I mean the fish was dirty, old, un-fresh BAD!
Once we took a bite of the bad fish sushi, we couldn't eat the rest. It really made our stomachs turn. The stir fry was right up there with what you'd get at a Hy-Vee buffet. Mushy, no flavor, just not good.
I can't complain about the stir fry because I sort of knew better (although the server insisted it was excellent)
I was as nice as I could be when she asked how the meal was. We clearly hadn't eaten even half of it. I felt compelled to explain that the fish was bad and she should probably address it with the kitchen.
That was pretty much the end of the experience. No "OMG! Really?" or any sort of surprise at all. No action taken. I normally don't care to complain about food, ask for refunds or anything of the sort but you'd think they would have at least offered to swap it out. My take on it was I was probably not the first to complain and she probably knew complaints would go unanswered.
The place was nearly empty at lunch time so I wouldn't expect a lot of turnaround of fresh ingredients, etc.
Any 5 star reviews here must be from either employees or friends of such. The idea that this is better than Blue or Kona is crazy. There are some more legit Japanese places in town like sakura bana, sushi, ichiban, etc. I've been to most so trust me that I am not new to sushi.
The reviewer that mentioned going to Taco Bell after was spot on. I needed something to clear the taste out of my mouth...
Read moreI've dined in at Okinawa twice. Each time, there was a gentleman that saw fit to pet my toddler daughter's head like she was a dog. The first time we dined in, he came to the table (unsure what his job is there as he certainly wasn't our waiter), and remarked how her hair 'looked like a cloud' and began petting it. He continued for a few moments without commenting before we finally said something, he apologized and left. We were obviously taken aback by his bizarre behavior. My daughter wasn't too bothered, so we simply got our things together and left.
We just dined there this evening again. We do enjoy the food (we usually order lunch to be delivered), the waitresses are very polite, and my daughter loves the gyoza. We were having a very nice evening when the same gentleman came over towards the end of our meal and without saying anything started petting my daughter's head with a blank expression on his face. He made 'ooo' sounds and laughed. My daughter immediately pulled away and reached for her mother. Upon seeing this he shirked away and apologized. We were getting up to get the hell out of there, when HE COMES BACK AND STARTS DOING IT AGAIN. We left quickly, stopped outside to speak with our daughter about what happened and took her home. I called to complain and to make someone aware of this person's disgustingly intrusive behavior, and was told by an employee that 'no one was there' when I asked to speak with someone about it.
This behavior is atrocious (not to mention unsanitary), and inappropriate. I will never eat at or support this restaurant again. Okinawa should be ashamed to have such an employee on...
Read moreI don’t understand why this restaurant is not in downtown or mid town omaha. It is so good , i felt like i just wanna move so close to where this place is and eat everyday!!!!
Im vietnamese and ive been eating a variety of asian restaurants here in Nebraska. Majority of places here are serving asian american food and its not even that good.
I ordered thai yellow beef curry , calamari, and teramisu booba tea. The curry itself is very good and flavorful. Its not too strong you cant eat but not bland either. Calamari is the most basic appetizer that you can’t go wrong . I was amazed by it. I tried blue sushi calamari and it was so greasy and giving me heartburn. This however is so different. The batter tasted light yet not so thick and heavy to chew. It has the right amount of crispness. Not greasy at all. The sauce for this was very very unique and good. Its a light sauce that probably made with tamarind.
I have to pass on the booba tea tho. Coming from drinking kungfu tea, the tea drink i had here is wayore bland than kungfu tea. I ordered the teramisu and it just ddidnt have any flavor of teramisu cake. But that is not a major issue. I mean after all, this is a restaurant, they serve food not drink. I think most of their booba tea would consider drinkable, its just not the best in omaha.
If it wasnt for the location i would come here again every week. I will come here again tho if it’s convenient to where i was going.
Hoping one day , they will open another spot in...
