Cheddar's is a place that appears to be a very open and honest restaurant, especially when it comes to their food. My family and I had been here before a few months ago and we weren't blown away. However, tonight we went out for a family dinner and went here.
We were seated immediately, and we were taken to our booth underneath the giant fan thing and the fish tank. Our waitress was very kind, replacing my soda when it tasted off due to the syrup running out as well as being very attentive and caring. She had said the onion rings were either revamped or new, so we decided to give them a try.
A tower of fried rings show up at our table a few minutes after we place it. A pinch of what appeared to be parsley was sprinkled on top which gave the plate a bit of color. To put it bluntly, they were quite plain. Even if the parsley added a bit of freshness to a bite, some form of seasoning would've been a really big help. This wasn't a good sign for my food, it seemed.
Shortly after, our waitress came back ready for our orders. My brother ordered salmon with fries, my mother got a double order of chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, my father had gotten porkchops with a baked potato, and I had gotten the chicken tenders and sirloin with fries.
Overall, the food was fairly mediocre. My brother's fries were cold, which was quickly rectified by our waitress. My fries tasted fairly bland, with more parsley on it for whatever reason. And, who would've thought, a pinch of salt blown into the wind instead of onto my food. No joke, I saw a total of 2 measly flecks of salt on a fry. The crux of it all for me were my chicken tenders. While yes, they were nicely fried and looked very appealing, it was almost as if someone took flour, egg wash, chicken, and then fried it. Not a single speck of salt, pepper, garlic powder, nothing. If I served this to my family, I'd bring shame to them. The only saving grace was the BBQ sauce, and even then that's just standard restaurant slop that's bulk bought. My steak was good, even if it had a similar amount of seasoning to my chicken, the char from the grill provided a nice burst of flavor which was sorely needed.
Cheddar's, if you are reading this, for the love of God, get some spices. Those will make things taste good and not akin to cardboard or even just nothing.
While I did eat my food (as my parents taught me), I still was left disappointed. I do believe that their donations to food banks and the like are admirable, but that should not constitute a higher rating in my opinion.
Personally, I won't be coming back. There are many better options within walking distance for me that would put this entire...
Read moreMe and my fiancé went out for a nice dinner after having a rough past two days. I went in my scrubs and she went in her blue collar work clothes. The gal that seated us was very sweet and nice while seating us. Once at the table it took a while for our waiter to bring us drinks which is totally fine not a big deal, while speaking with another table he reached around our table and tossed us some straws. Also not a big deal. From what we could tell he had 3-4 tables. We both ordered alcoholic beverages and after seeing both our ID’s it seemed to go down hill from there. We ordered our appetizers, they came to the table. Then when we finished with our apps he came back around we had to ask him if we could place our dinner order. He just sighed and took our order. Throughout our time there he checked on his other tables asking how their meals were and asking if they wanted more drinks and what not. I sat with an empty drink for most of the meal. He didn’t check in with us once throughout our entire meal there. The manager came by and brought us boxes and we didn’t mention anything because who knows what kind of day he was having so we let it go. As dinner went on he didn’t check in at all and we weren’t asked if we needed anymore to drink, how our food was, or if we needed anything. I paid on the kiosk and wrote a similar review to this one. After looking at our receipt and review we left, he stormed over to our table aggressively and rudely asking about us not leaving a tip and the review and stated “do we have a problem” I simply calmly told him that he checked on all of his tables but us. Along with the fact he didn’t offer to take any plates from the apps that we had prior. He stated that there was to many plates on the table and that it was a lot for him. My fiancé and I both work in the service industry on top of our other jobs. He then stated that he would get the manager, my fiancé and I were just done at this point and just wanted to leave. He then stormed away and we left. This was a very unwelcoming experience, we drove from glenwood Iowa to eat there. We will not be back after this experience and how the server acted...
Read moreCheddar's was absolutely phenomenal!!! We ate at sort of an off-time of day, which can be a good or a bad thing. Everything was AMAZING! Our server, Camron V., was kind, efficient and responsive. He was knowledgeable about the menu and answered my questions as I was undecided on what to order. He came back multiple times to make sure we had everything we needed. Even my young children commented on their own that he was a "really good server" and they never pay attention to things like that, ha. That being said, all staff we encountered were extremely courteous! The atmosphere was spot-on, clean, aesthetically pleasing and the perfect temperature. (Many times I find meals to be not enjoyable as the temp inside is way too hot or cold, or the music is blaring to the point you can't even hear yourself think let alone have a conversation.) The music playing was an amazing mix of music all of us were able to enjoy- a mix of all genres and wasn't too loud or too quiet. Our food came out very quickly and all four meals were hot and fresh and tasted better than I would have expected! Due to diet reasons, one of my children has to order grilled chicken often when eating out and usually complains... this time she wouldn't stop talking about how good it was and kept showing me how juicy it was, lol. Food portions were HUGE, and a couple of the kids meals were only $4.99!!!! The kids wanted Shirley Temples to drink, most places would charge an extra $2+ a piece for those, but they did not charge extra with the kid's meals... AND the cup sizes were very large with free refills! The kids were begging to come back before we even left the restaurant; we will definitely be going back soon! I highly...
