Hold on, I've got lots to say about this place. When you walk in the door there is no sign that says "Please seat yourself/wait to be seated." Since this was our first (and only) time here we didn't know if it was open dressing or not. After 3 minutes of no one nothing us, I asked a waitress if it was open seating and see said yes. My husband and I found a table and waited a few minutes for a waitress to notice us. She took our drink order and when she brought it back she asked if we were ready to order. We weren't ready yet and asked for another minute. Another group sat down at our shared table and the waitress came over, took their drink order and when she returned with their drinks she took their order and then took ours. 20 minutes later our appetizer finally arrived luke warm and incorrect. You see, they offer garlic cheese curds and habanero cheese curds. I have zero spice tolerance and my husband has a pretty high one. We ordered the garlic ones and unbeknownst to me until it was way too late we were given the habanero ones. My mouth was on fire for the next 15-20 minutes from one bite of these. I drained my water and everything was still burning. I finally got our waitress flashed down after a good 4 minutes to let her know that they were incorrect and that I needed more water. She said "sorry" rather snootily and brought us hot garlic ones within 5 minutes. My husband and I finished our cheese curds and the meal was brought for the family that ordered 30 seconds ahead of us. After they had completed their meal and ordered dessert, our food finally came, almost 50 minutes after ordering it. The food was nothing to write home about, the service was horrible, and the only redeeming thing about this restaurant is that you can watch literally any game on television. We had the steak philly with fries and the steak dinner. The philly was decent and the fries were good, but the steak was marinated in some wierd sauce. The garlic cheese curds were okay in flavor but super greasy and served with a Marzetti cup of ranch (tastes like bottled ranch). The salad was actually a good mix of baby lettuce instead of iceberg which was surprising but still served with the Marzetti ranch. Overall we weren't impressed and won't be back. Word to the wise, save your money, calories, and time and go...
Read moreFirst reaction, the place smelled like a barn. When we were sitting for 5 minutes and still no one acknowledging us. A lovely security man inquired for us if they were still serving. The waitress replied ‘(loud enough for us to hear her across the room’ ) 'they’ll just have to hold their horses, I’m busy now.' Granted the place was fairly occupied, was there just one waitress for the whole dining area? Overworked and stressed out employee and or poor management. Either way, we walked out and shan’t be returning to the DJ's Dugout in AKSARBEN again.
2/2025- In response to the owner's ignorance and shock of this experience. Thank you for your generic apology. What does the fact you haven't had security for three months have to do with what happened over a year ago? Of course you're going to clam back with confusion and innocence. The man wearing security gear could see us sitting there with not even a wave or eye contact. He walked up to the bar and inquired like he knew all the employees. The waitress loudly said her piece, then the gentlemen bartender shrugged, the customers started to stare at us, so we walked out feeling disappointed, embarrassed and still hungry. We were all quite aware what area of Omaha we were in. To conclude, I truly hope it doesn't/didn't sit right with you. I'm pleased we aren't the only ones sad from that experience. That night, Dj's dugout in AKSARBEN was the proverbial buzzkill for three friends, born and raised in Omaha now all living in different parts of the world. We had a chance to reunite for one night, (which is a rarity in our 30 plus years knowing each other) I know loads of people who dine in and carry out at DJ's, they've never had a bad experience. I''m the one who told my friends we should go to Dj's based on all the happy customers you have. Our experience was the complete opposite. You better believe that wretched moment will be documented for anyone else to...
Read moreI’ve visited many times when coming into town for business. Truly it’s the food that brings me back. That reason showed again based on the lack of service there was at the bar. Two bartenders were working. One was behind the bar most of the time and the other was more interested in putting glasses away instead of asking if I wanted anything to drink. She walked past me multiple times without a look at me. Finally the guy came from behind the bar and asked if I needed anything. Provided me with a food menu as well and then disappeared once again for over five minutes. She just continued to stock beer and pour other people drinks. I had to ask if she could place a food order for me. She said yes and simply stood there with zero emotion and said, “go ahead….”
I sat with an empty glass for 10 minutes before she asked if I would like another beer. I declined and was never asked if I would like anything else to drink. I then paid cash for the beer.
When my food came out, I asked for a water which I received without a smile. Never once was I asked how the food was.
I received my bill. The beer was still on the receipt and I had to explain that I had already paid for that drink.
I’ve never seen such an unoccupied bar staff as I did tonight when there are people sitting at the bar. Nor have I seen someone checking their phone so much with their back to the bar as much as I did tonight.
Come to DJ’s for the food. Don’t come for the bad attitude...
