Had such a lovely night out. Oysterfest was totally worth the 90min drive. Had a seafood feast for only $80 by combining the Oysterfest prices with happy hour prices at Shucks Fish House & Oyster Bar. Cup of oyster stew, 1lb peel and eat shrimp, clam strips, 1doz Harbor House oysters from Delaware, 1doz North Shore Gold from P.E.I. Canada and 3 draft beers. This seafood loving FL girl is a happy clam.
I will say that the clam strips were way too salty, but not too heavily breaded. Also, not very meaty. The oyster stew was thick - like clam chowder and had a total of 3 oysters (which I thought was decent, since it was only a cup). I’m used to oyster stew being more thin (but maybe that’s just how it is up here in the Midwest). It was also way too salty for me, the bread piece served with it helped (a little). North Shore oysters were FIRE! Harbor House oysters were good - a little bigger than what I prefer, but were thin, so not too overwhelming. Both had a little bit of grit, but, they’re oysters, so they’re not gonna be perfect. The cocktail sauce had definite hints of Bloody Mary mix. Horseradish was nose tingling good. Beer was cold and didn’t taste off (which can happen sometimes with draft beer).
The restaurant was on the smaller side and busy when we arrive just after 5. We sat at the bar, and despite the rush, had great service that was friendly and prompt. Overall, very happy with the experience and looking forward to making another trip to one of their other two locations...
Read moreThis place is a true gem. The staff were awesome, kind, and obviously care about the customers overall experience. The guys at the bar checked with me every couple of minutes just to make sure none of my needs went unattended. The oysters were fresh and delicious. Not to mention surprisingly cheap. 4 blues for roughly 8 bucks with tax. The fisherman's combo consisted of fried shrimp, calamari, and fish. Fried shrimp was perfectly cooked as well as the calamari, I was given a Thai chili sauce to dip the calamari in which was a mind blowing delicious experience. Only negative thing i can say about this place is solely going to be based on my personal preference. That being said, I like my fish batter to be crispy. I'm not 100 percent sure what batter they use on the fish but it wasn't what I was expecting. However it was still cooked perfectly. My whole meal including the oysters was about $20.00. If you're looking for awesome seafood in a laid back atmosphere that won't break the bank than...
Read moreMe and my husband love seafood and fish so weve always heard the hype about shucks.... Our first and last time going. We got crab cakes which were good texture but flavor tangy and spicy not good. The mussels are a joke, they are the smallest mussels I've ever seen. The food was not good at all. I barely touched mine and the server never asked if anything was wrong just took. The service was very unprofessional and not friendly. Took forever to be seated or greeted once we were sat we were asked right away without even having menus for a minute what we wanted. He didn't check on us much, all the servers sat at bar eating and drinking which I find unprofessional. The hardest working person there was a boy who looked like he was twelve busting around to get stuff done and people their food. I will never return. I've worked and worked in the food industry for a long time and can say the service and food were not great. My husband is also a chef and was not...
