Let me say this up front-- we have been going to Spires forever. I'm biased and we're regulars.
Ask yourself the following---
Do you want a good meal at a reasonable price? Is the meal more important than a snazzy décor? Is it important the meal is actually cooked there on site vs. the portioned controlled microwave warm up garbage of a Denny's or Applebee's? Do you want breakfast for dinner? Do you wanted to get a sit down meal and be treated with respect and welcome by the servers and managers vs. being treated like the next tip? Or how fast can they turn over a table? Do you need to quickly check your email and catch the news while you're being served? Do you need to get a bite to eat before or after going to the Ontario Convention Center, Ontario Airport, or Ontario Mills Mall?
If so, Spires is the place for you.
Spires in Ontario is a real American Dinner without all the fu-fu BS of the latest Food Network Restaurant Rookies trying to enter the market. This is a local family owned group of restaurants that keep the cash in the community and cares about the customer. At Spires 90% of the food is prepared fresh. The rest are standard deserts and goodies they bring in because "we" the customer's like them enough to buy them frequently. So we get it. This isn't the Cheesecake Factory, and on behalf of the "Regulars," we are glad they aren't-- so please don't come in with an attitude and disrespect these good folks trying to making a living for themselves and their employees. They serve good food, good coffee & drinks, great deserts and will be thrilled to box up a to go order if you need it. Oh yes if you're eating lighter, they have Senior and Kids Menus.
The menu is standard diner fare-- but they do have a few things on the menu that are memorable: The New York Steak compete dinner for $12 beats the hell out of Norm's these days. The Fried Zucchini sticks (more like sticks,) are homemade and are excellent. Their Mediterranean Salad and the Mediterranean Omelets (I add bacon or ham,) are out of this world. If you want a good bowl of soup, with a Club, BLT, Patty Melt or Tuna Melt, this is your go to place.
Oh if your Sweet Fang is hungry-- try the pies or the carrot cake. They...
Read moreA COZY FAMILY RESTAURANT! Spires is a mix of a Denny's, Norms, and Coco's with a slightly more charming design than Cocos. The circular restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. I recommend the Spires Original Beefeater which comes with thinly sliced roast beef with melted jack cheese on grilled Parmesan cheese bread. It's tasty and the meat is perfect. The bread on the sandwich could be improved, it's not as "Parmesan-y" as it could've been. The fries are thick and accompany the sandwich well. The waitress was super nice, she took down my order wrong and came back to apologize after I was given the wrong meal. I got my correct meal after a little longer of a wait and she kept apologizing for the error. That's good service when staff have accountability! I mentioned I had a Yelp offer of a free coffee but she forgot. Hopefully next time I can get it. Therefore, if you have a free coffee offer, make sure you keep reminding the staff if you want it! The restaurant was clean, mellow and everyone was attentive to the customers. Spires has some lunch specials and great dinners/breakfasts for seniors! The restaurant also has a fridge with desserts inside. Idk if they're made fresh here or not, however everything looked enticing! There's plenty of parking here and it's good for different size groups. It's super close to the Ontario Convention Center and...
Read moreThis was the worst service I've had in a restaurant in a long time. Things started out well but soon I had soup salad and my main course all in front of me before I was even half way through my first course. This was true for all four of us at the table. Then one asked for honey mustard for her fish...the waitress never brought it, never cleared the soup and salad dishes and never checked back until 3 of us had finished our meals and the 4th said she was still waiting for her honey mustard. We asked for to go containers and ordered our desserts. The waitress brought our containers right away, but it took over 20 minutes to get our four deserts and one was wrong and took another 10 to get that one corrected. The food however was very good and well presented. The place wasn't extremely busy but they did seem short staffed or not working efficiently as on waitress seemed to be not as busy as our waitress. I would not recommend this restaurant based on this service but because the food was good and well priced I would give them a second chance. We were there 9/30/21 at 5 pm and didn't leave until almost 7 because of such...
