Chula Vista Méxican Restaurant — Restaurant in Oregon

Came here for lunch today with my husband and mother-in-law. Decided to try one of the Mexican restaurants we haven’t been at, yet and this place had fairly good reviews, and a 4.3 rating on Google. They greeted us quickly, was friendly enough throughout the whole dining experience, but for a restaurant that was not very full at all at the time, service was verrrrrrrry slow. We finished the complimentary chips and salsa pretty quickly, and were not offered any refills of such. They were not attentive enough to notice that our cups of water were empty practically our whole visit, so naturally we asked for the refills when we were able to flag someone down. She would forget small things (the flour tortillas to go with my husband’s meal, and after being asked for some more water, she would take quite a while to return with the water and have forgotten, etc.). It got to the point where my husband wanted a soda to go with his meal, but the soda machine was broken, so husband was going to just order a cerveza, but due to the length of time it took to get anything, my mother-in-law requested for my husband to hold off on that request, because she was so frustrated with the service. My taco plate was ok (tried one of each: chicken, beef, pork), but not the best I’ve had in Salem. Mother-in-law was disappointed with her plate, because her burrito looked more like an enchilada, really soaked in sauce, and the carne asada inside did not seem very well-grilled. After finishing what we could, we waited for a bit to again be able to flag someone down for a check, but just ended up walking to the register. I was so sad to have to pay $45 for the three of us after that experience. And I am one who is usually happy to pay the piper for a great meal! The lady that cashed us out was probably the friendliest one there! It pains me to give 3 stars for this place. Every time we come to Salem, we eat here. The food is delicious and the location is convenient to the string of hotels on Hawthorne. Let me reiterate that the food is delicious. We’ve been here 3 times in 18 months. Each time we come, the place is mostly empty. This has been on various nights of the week. The drinks are good. The food is great. The service is terrible. Out of all three times, we have never had a great experience with the server. Two out of the three times, we waited a few minutes for someone to even acknowledge that we were there in spite of it being slow. Once we were seated, our drinks were brought out fairly quickly. So were the chips and salsa. So did our food. But then nobody came around. For a long time. All three times. The last time, we got up to go find someone so we could get our check. If you have some time on your hands, then I strongly encourage you to go to this restaurant because the food is delicious. But be prepared to wait when it comes to customer service and don’t expect to be greeted warmly or with any overt hospitality or urgency. Not a good authentic Mexican restaurant. Waiter bought everyone salsa and chips but us. only came by for our order and to drop the food. That never turns me off as I know people get busy but it deffenlty added to the bad experience. The food was bland you could tell the sauce either came from a can or was watered down to save money. Which I don't know why since the portions are so small. On the real I would have rather had Dell taco. If you have had good Mexican food before your looking for a dissapointment here. What finally sent me over was the fact that none of the experience was good so far the waiter kept passing us up not asking if we wanted anything else or provide the check I had to go to the front let them know we were done and we want our check so we can leave already.
