Stopped at Huckleberry Inn on our way back to Portland after camping at Timothy Lake, and it was a big mistake. The place was crowded and overpriced, but that’s to be expected in Government Camp. What I didn’t expect was the terrible service and poorly executed food.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear the staff was overwhelmed. A customer was arguing with the owner about waiting too long for his ticket, and instead of addressing the issue professionally, the owner was barking at the elderly waitress to hurry up. She was in such a rush that she forgot my wife’s apple juice, which we had to remind her to bring later. The coffee was cold, and I had to get up multiple times to fetch basic things like jam and extra butter that I had already asked for.
I ordered the Mt. Hood omelette, which was supposed to have bacon, eggs, and mushrooms. Instead, it came with ham. When I finally managed to flag down the server to correct it, we were already out of time, so I didn’t even get to eat what I ordered. To top it off, the pancakes were ruined because they don’t label the syrups, and I ended up pouring the gross huckleberry syrup all over them instead of regular syrup. The hash browns were somehow both cold and burned—an impressive feat, but not in a good way.
When I told the owner about the omelette mistake and asked for boxes, he acted like I was trying to scam him by saying "let me get that out of your way" as if to suggest I was going to eat it anyway after he took it off the ticket, which was the last straw. This place is a mess. Overpriced, underwhelming, and not worth the hassle. I’ll be steering clear of this place...
Read moreHad a very tasty breakfast here on a Saturday morning. My husband and I were promptly attended to upon entering and given water and had our orders taken. We both had water to drink and ordered the bacon, mushroom & cheese omelette. The omelette meal comes with toast, jelly and hash browns. My husband can’t eat potato so he subbed his hash-browns for pancakes and had huckleberry in them. The omelettes were so good- very large, filled generously with bacon, and the serving size of hash-browns was unreal. The pancakes with huckleberries absolutely stole the show though. We both said if we had known how good those were- we would have both ordered that alone. Really great breakfast- I would absolutely go back. I did deduct a star because the waitress never came back after bringing us our food- so once I ran out of water I had to flag down another waiter to bring me more water and we never even got our bill - so we just went to the counter to check out. Thankfully there weren’t any needs other than water refills, since the waitress didn’t return. But, it wasn’t such to cause us to not want to return on future trip - food and general service and atmosphere was...
Read moreFood was subpar and extremely overpriced. Nothing special about this restaurant, bathroom was dirty and placed smelled gross. Got a regular cup of coffee and was charged $3 for it, every other restaurant/diner I’ve ever been to has never charged for normal coffee. When I went to go pay I was complaining to my friends about this and the guy at the counter got super defensive and said in a very snooty manner, “sorry you feel that way” and kept trying to argue with me about it when I said how odd it was they charged for a normal coffee and how the place sucked for charging for a thing that is usually free. Then when I went to use my card he snapped at me saying $3 and under is cash only then he proceeded to say in a nasty tone for me to have a nice day. COMPLETELY RUDE SERVICE. It was just $3 but still unnecessary rude treatment. The guy at the counter took everything personally and was terrible at customer service. He should have said “yeah sorry about that” and then moved on. Greedy company and they will probably start charging for waters soon. Overall place is a rip off with rude old people and I will never...
