This place is SO GOOD! The menu is simple but everything is well executed. I saw another review where the gent complained that the "meat was dry" & to that I'd say: I wouldn't exactly call the meat WET. But that's why you put sauce on things anyway, right? The 3 protein options of Beef, Pork, or Chicken are all well seasoned & you get a good amount w/ whatever entree you order. The house mild green & hot red sauces are both just killer. The beans & rice are phenomenal- Mild, soft, fluffy & creamy. My friend who doesn't really like beans & rice tried a taste of mine & was pleasantly surprised by how much he liked them! Nachos were made w/ these super thick crunchy fried chips that don't turn into a soggy mess. They come w/ a good drizzle of sour cream, some creamy beans & a bunch of cotija. Simple, right? I don't normally like beans on my nachos either BUT IT WORKS. Super good w/ beef b/c you can taste the beef fat in the best possible way. And lastly, every member of the staff & friendly & helpful & just lovely people! Just go. You...
Read moreThe atmosphere is minimalist but sufficient and clean. Order from the counter food brought to table. Working on beer and margarita permits. As of the time I am writing this. It is traditional drinks like horchata and soft drinks. THE FOOD... The food is very not cookie cutter Mexican. Jose and Rachel own the place and serve as front and back of the house, respectively. The food is multigeneration recipes from Rachel's mother, grand mother, etc. How many generation back I don't know, but you will taste the difference. Sauces are homemade and fresh. Presentation is amost more of a Cuban influence than Northern Mexico. Jose said the family is from central southeast Mexico. As for service, you are treated as family. Get hungry on early as their business hours do not go...
Read moreWe are so grateful for J & R! They've been a bright new spot in the Oak Grove neighborhood and give me a little nostalgic taste of home (Los Angeles). Their tacos and burritos are superb; the chicken and steak are always cooked to perfection. Beans always bring a depth of flavor and the rice is always perfectly fluffy. Enchiladas and taquitos are also great (especially the potato ones), and in general the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the portions you get. Big fan of their salsa verde and handmade tortillas too, and everyone on staff is friendly and hospitable. I hope they expand their veggie options in the future, but as an omnivore it's not a big deal for me. Keep it up! Looking forward to trying the nachos and pozole at...
