I've visited twice now and the experience has been great. I've sampled every taco and tried a burrito, enchiladas, beans and rice. The tacos were excellent, probably the best thing I've tried here. There are 3 to choose from and they are reasonably priced. You really can't go wrong with any of the tacos. The pastor burrito was pretty average, but not bad. The pastor enchiladas were really good, but I didn't expect lettuce and sauce (sour cream?)on top. There's a little wait time as the food is being prepared, but service was good. Finally, I really liked both the red and green sauce, but the red had some spicy kick that I enjoyed more. I've only got food to go here.

As you can see from the photos the produce was fresh and ripe. The guac was superb, as were the amazing fresh house made chips and salsa. The burrito bowl didn’t come with avocado or tomatoes, but I paid extra for them and I’m glad that I did, so delicious! The pollo in the burrito bowl was perfectly seasoned. We will most definitely be back. Our previous go-to was PorQueNo, but while they still have our hearts in terms of the decor and commitment to inclusion as well as yummy Mexican food, J & R Mexican Food is giving them a serious run for their money. Absolutely give them a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Family owned restaurant run by local folks doing it right. This is my 3rd time here and this time it was the chicken enchiladas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars without hesitation, just look at the picture! The chicken is grilled brown and spicy with love. It'll make your tongue slap your brain 😝 You know how nachos are just a eh, nothing special thing pretty much everywhere? Not here! Had those the 2nd trip here and rolled TF out the door after trying to eat the whole plate. Delicious nachos exist but you'll probably have to get 'em at J & R Mexican Food. They're worth the drive.

This place is SO GOOD! The menu is simple but everything is well executed. I saw another review where the gent complained that the "meat was dry" & to that I'd say: I wouldn't exactly call the meat WET. But that's why you put sauce on things anyway, right? The 3 protein options of Beef, Pork, or Chicken are all well seasoned & you get a good amount w/ whatever entree you order. The house mild green & hot red sauces are both just killer. The beans & rice are phenomenal- Mild, soft, fluffy & creamy. My friend who doesn't really like beans & rice tried a taste of mine & was pleasantly surprised by how much he liked them! Nachos were made w/ these super thick crunchy fried chips that don't turn into a soggy mess. They come w/ a good drizzle of sour cream, some creamy beans & a bunch of cotija. Simple, right? I don't normally like beans on my nachos either BUT IT WORKS. Super good w/ beef b/c you can taste the beef fat in the best possible way. And lastly, every member of the staff & friendly & helpful & just lovely people! Just go. You...

The atmosphere is minimalist but sufficient and clean. Order from the counter food brought to table. Working on beer and margarita permits. As of the time I am writing this. It is traditional drinks like horchata and soft drinks. THE FOOD... The food is very not cookie cutter Mexican. Jose and Rachel own the place and serve as front and back of the house, respectively. The food is multigeneration recipes from Rachel's mother, grand mother, etc. How many generation back I don't know, but you will taste the difference. Sauces are homemade and fresh. Presentation is amost more of a Cuban influence than Northern Mexico. Jose said the family is from central southeast Mexico. As for service, you are treated as family. Get hungry on early as their business hours do not go...

We are so grateful for J & R! They've been a bright new spot in the Oak Grove neighborhood and give me a little nostalgic taste of home (Los Angeles). Their tacos and burritos are superb; the chicken and steak are always cooked to perfection. Beans always bring a depth of flavor and the rice is always perfectly fluffy. Enchiladas and taquitos are also great (especially the potato ones), and in general the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the portions you get. Big fan of their salsa verde and handmade tortillas too, and everyone on staff is friendly and hospitable. I hope they expand their veggie options in the future, but as an omnivore it's not a big deal for me. Keep it up! Looking forward to trying the nachos and pozole at...
