If you find yourself in the Orland Park area, and are looking for a place to eat, I highly recommend Kismet of Orland Park on 151st just west of LaGrange. The restaurant is a small burger joint situated in a mini mall. Whether you eat in or take an order to go, I highly recommend choosing Kismet over a lot of other places in the area. Kismet is a small family owned business, and I had the opportunity to meet the owners recently. The restaurant has a very long history, and was lucky enough to have longstanding regulars who kept it open through the pandemic. The two reasons, from my personal experience, are the wonderful service and delicious food. I can personally recommend the burgers, which are huge and perfectly grilled! The same goes for the Chicago style hot dog and Maxwell Street style polish. The fries are always crispy and golden. Last but not least, I have to comment on two menu items I found to be just as good at Kismet as anywhere else I have eaten. The first is the Reuben. Tender and delicious, and this comes from a guy who has eaten his share at plenty of different delis and restaurants around Chicago and beyond. The second is the Gyro. I will put any Gyro up against theirs, including Jacky's Hot Dogs on Pulaski. Yep! I never had a Gyro that was anywhere near as good as Jacky's until Kismet. Oh! One last item I did try and found delicious! Their Philly Cheesesteak, which had to have been sliced fresh in house. The owner and I talked about the food and he even mentioned that prices had gone up since last year. He wanted to let me know that they care about the quality of the food. The price of his Gyro meat is double that of some of his competitors, but the little extra you have to pay is well worth it for the quality of all of his food. I promised him I would write a little something on Facebook. I may have taken it a little further than a quick blurb, but that is because I do believe in the small businesses steeped in tradition who serve quality to loyal customers. ...
Read moreNot being from the area I went off of reviews when looking for a place to grab a quick bite; let me tell you the reviews were not wrong, this place is AWESOME. I have had a gyros more times than I can count; I have had good, bad and great, this place is up at the top with great. When you order a gyros you better get ready to take some home (and I usually finish all my meals), the amount of meat your get is ridiculously abundant and delicious topped with a homemade tzatziki sauce.
But enough of the food (which again is great), let’s talk about the staff. These people were so kind and personable. It’s rare when you are sitting at a place that serves burgers, hot dogs, etc. that you are going to be asked how your meal is, but the owners of this place were so genuine and proud of the food they serve that they want to make sure their customers are happy and satisfied.
I was fortunate enough to try their rice pudding (which is homemade) and again the quality and taste were so above anything I was expecting.
If you live in the area I hope you make this your go to, if you are traveling through the Orland Park area make it a point to stop. In today’s day and time it feels great to support small businesses and this one you will be...
Read moreFast, tasty, standard. Good friend of mine was feeling a little under the weather so I got her some chicken noodle soup, gyro sandwich for myself and some cream of chicken and rice. We've got little places like this all over Chicago, they occasionally experiment with the menu but they know what their customers want. Far as I'm concerned, if this place can make a decent gyro, They can probably do a really good Italian beef or cheeseburger or Chicago dog too. I was tempted by the steak sandwich, but gyro was my only craving tonight. Dude who took my order was friendly, accommodating, got my food out quick...all around great experience. They even have ice cream. It wasn't on my the agenda for tonight, but I can't think of anything that would follow a meal better than a scoop or may be a root beer float. It's The kinda place you'd be thankful to find at 2 am after a bar crawl, lots of feel-food fair. Hope their business picks up....
