The Irish Patriot — Restaurant in Orland Township

This place is definitely not known for its food and should have read the reviews first. I started off by ordering a Smithwicks. I then ordered the garlic parmesan fries appetizer along with a bacon jalapeño cheese burger. The Smithwicks arrived in a Guinness glass and it was a little flat. It was then that I realized I had screwed up. Lol. The garlic parmesan fries arrived and I don't know what kind of garlic they used (maybe the squeeze tube type) and the parmesan cheese was probably straight out of a kraft cheese bottle. The burger arrived and it was as expected. It's a frozen patty that was fairly dry and the jalapeños were there but had zero heat.

Overall, looks like a great place to have a pint but stay away from the food. Patrons are allowed to vape inside. Patron with the blue shirt is a vapor. I sat with a direct view of him and watched him vape the entire time. With my experience from the Smithwicks and as a Guinness enthusiast, I can almost confidently say that the Guinness there will be disappointing (but I didn't try it and can't...

I'm flummoxed by the many positive reviews for this place. I've probably been in here 4 or 5 times since the place opened when Paddy B's closed. It opened with a lot of promise. It looked so nice. It is not. Of the 4 to 5 visits, I've had 4 to 5 bizarre experiences. Bizarre is probably the best word to describe it here. The bartender walking around in socks one night, a waitress accusing my sister of knocking over an outdoor umbrella rather than assuming (as a normal person might) that it was the wind, locking the door to the outside area when there were still customers out there without telling us they were closing, then TWO employees standing outside the bathroom door waiting for me when I had the nerve to ask to use the bathroom before leaving, music BLARING when the place had about 5 patrons rattling around inside...I could go on. I've never left there thinking, what a fun time. I've only left thinking, I plan to never return again.

This place is amazing. First time there was just a couple days ago. I am going back again today. The food was amazing. I got the wings and the Rubens. The service was great and the bartenders are fun and talkative. Even gave me that old pub feel when she gave me some fun feistiness back to something I said. I like that. The Guinness was outstanding as well. I can not complain about anything here! They even had a band when I was there! I can’t believe this place isn’t packed all the time.
