This is the SECOND time I've went to Uncle Julio's in Orland Park, Illinois, without being able to eat what I ordered! I am vegan and allergic to onions. The grilled vegetable fajitas are usually fantastic however, last time I was there they brought them with onions and I sent the order back not eating.
This time when they were carried out of the kitchen on a bed of onions, I told the server that I requested NO ONIONS! He apologized for his mistake and took the plate back. When the plate was brought back, I told the Vegam Chef I was with that, I bet they used the same mushrooms from the initial plate. She said, No, that's not what an upstanding restaurant would do! Well, as you can clearly see in the picture the onions on the plate underneath the mushrooms. I asked for a manager.
A man wearing a black chef jacket that had General Manager embossed on it said, "oh, onions are mixed in so had I known you were allergic, and not that you just didn't like onions, I would've picked them out." Seriously, now you're going to pick stuff out of food that was already sent out and returned??? Yuk!
He promised to make a fresh dish so at least I could eat something. I told my friend, you can have it because I bet it's the same mushrooms from earlier. Even if all the onions are "picked out" they still sweat and their taste will be on the mushrooms! She said when she tried them at home they tasted like onions as I'd suspected!
I asked her to send me a copy of the bill to post since the General Manager promised to take off the dish I couldn't eat. I was shocked and amazed that he charged her $54 for their mistakes đł the beverage she had was soda water with lime, smh! It says server error $54 but Fernando only made 1 initial $18 mistake. The chef CHOSE to send out the same dish 3 times!!! Oh AND, if you're vegan, the cilantro lime rice is made with butter so...
Read moreWe must have went on an off night. Was there last night. Our reservation was for 8:00pm. We arrived at 7:55pm and checked in. Stood by the front door until 8:45pm before we asked what was going on. Was told we were waiting for a tile to be cleaned off. Fine. We get seated close to 9pm. Sat and chatted with my friends until we realized we had been sitting for 20 minutes and hadnât been approached by a waitress. Found a waitress to ask for water and chips/salsa. A waitress, Danny, came over and introduced herself and brought water and chips. Then she zipped off somewhere. As she was passing our table, my friend attempted to ask her a question. She cut my friend off, never stopped walking, and said âNOPE NOT NOWâ very rudely. We asked the manager for another waitress because that was outrageous. WE DIDNT ORDER OUR FOOD UNTIL 9:45pm. At this point , itâs a debacle. We got served our food around 10:15. I ordered the Guadalajara. When I got my food, it was noticeably a smaller portion than Iâve ever received (I always get this meal). Didnât receive my grilled jalapeno or pico. Waited for our new waitress (whom was very pleasant) to come back so I could ask for my pepper and pico. Theyâre out of peppers. Fine. At this point, itâs approaching 11pm and weâre all pretty much over it. Highly disappointed. This was our first time coming to this location. Iâve only ever been to north avenue location. But theyâre closed so we tried this location. Not a Good representation of Uncle Julioâs at ALL. Danny was rude and unkempt. The food was smaller portions and lacking presentation. I canât remember our new waitressâs names but she was so nice and did the best she could. There were also two black lady waitresses who were super nice . So that...
Read moreI recently dined at a restaurant and felt compelled to share my experience, although it's not a review I would typically write. The primary reason for my disappointment was the non-respectful and ignorant behavior exhibited by the staff.
From the moment I walked in, it was clear that some of the restaurant's employees lacked an understanding of different cultures and customs. I witnessed multiple instances where customers, including myself, were met with insensitive comments and actions from the staff. It was disheartening to see this lack of cultural awareness and respect.
In one instance, a customer tried to explain dietary restrictions based on cultural or religious beliefs, and instead of showing understanding or empathy, a staff member made offensive comments about the order. This not only embarrassed the customer but created a tense atmosphere for everyone present.
The management's response to these issues was lackluster. It seems they were aware of the problem, but there was no immediate action taken to address it. It left me with the impression that they were not taking this matter seriously.
In a time where inclusivity and respect for diversity should be paramount, this restaurant's staff exhibited behavior that was disheartening and disappointing. While the food and ambiance were decent, the lack of respect and cultural sensitivity from the staff overshadowed the overall dining experience.
I would strongly recommend that the management invest in diversity and cultural sensitivity training for their employees to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Customers should feel welcomed and respected regardless of their background or beliefs, and it's the responsibility of the restaurant staff to...
