Long overdue review. I was a neighbor and would come buy breakfast religiously at this french cafe every Friday. Each time spending roughly 20$, sometimes more. For 9 months that’s give or take $2k.
The last time I went there they forgot to give me my dessert on two consecutive occasions. Each time I had to return to tell them the mistake. The first time they gave me the item. The second time they were about to give me the item when one of the girls suddenly started to whisper to call the owner.
The owner came to me, very aggressively and told me they would give me the item ‘this one time but not again’. I then told her ‘I don’t want the item’ and she insisted. This entire back and forth happened in front of other customers and her staff; I was literally shaking from the anxiety I was feeling in a highly stressful interaction where she blatantly suggested I’m lying. When I told her in french how she was making me feel she proceeded to say ‘she wasn’t aggressive, just french and it’s how they talk’. I’ve worked with French people and can differentiate between ‘being french’ and ‘being aggressive’.
Needless to say this whole conversation went on for longer than needed and as someone who was supporting local businesses I was shocked.
The embarrassment she put me through in front of her entire staff who stood there watching and other customers was completely unacceptable. I told her instead of taking the feedback and working with her staff to ensure oversights don’t happen she proceeded to say ‘her girls NEVER make mistakes’. French or not french, you don’t insinuate your frequent customers are stealing from you. As much as the food, coffee, and most of the staff are friendly, I never stepped foot in there after that abysmal customer experience from the actual owner.
It was good to see recent reviews where she has acknowledged that they made a mistake on someone else’s order. I guess they do make mistakes and she’s finally able to...
Read moreEdit April 2024: ownership has changed hands & while some things are still ok there have been noticeable changes to quality & preparation. I started to notice the crepe no longer seemed cooked or golden brown, ordered again today thinking it was a one off & not the case; pale, sad crepe lacking the flavor it used to. I did try to reach out but they claim the kitchen says they made the crepe as they always have, I encourage reviewing the photo of what I was served today against other crepes - filling aside the consistency & color of the crepe should be the same as it was previously. The hash brown madame & omelette also don’t seem the same to us. I noticed the owner replied saying all was the same but again I encourage comparing photos of the crepe I was served recently to others, recipe may be the same but the preparation / method is different & seems that way with a couple other dishes as well.

Read moreWe stopped by Café 906 in Baldwin Park on a quiet Sunday around noon, and what a lovely find it was! This was our first visit, and we were pleasantly surprised. Parking was easy, and the café itself was clean, cozy, and welcoming, with a mix of tables, chairs, and even some comfy sofa seating.
The ladies behind the counter were warm and helpful, taking the time to explain their menu and answer my curiosity about a canelé; a small French pastry with a custard-like center and caramelized crust, delicately flavored with rum and vanilla. The texture was unexpected but absolutely delicious. I’d order it again in a heartbeat!
We tried what I believe was their special: salmon on cranberry bread with cream cheese, served with a fresh side salad and a standout house dressing. We also had the Crêpes Brest with a sunny side up egg, simple, flavorful, and satisfying.
This charming little spot is perfect for a quick French bite or a relaxing midday treat. We’ll...
