I was in the area following an appt and wanted to try some Caribbean food in the area. This place had over 1,000 reviews so I was looking forward to trying it. From the reviews I read, they were mixed but mostly good, so I figured it was still worth a try. The place was clean, service for ordering was prompt, about 5-7 mins from arrival, and the lady who took my order was very pleasant, patient and helpful. There was only one person waiting to order in front of me but various people were around waiting for their order. From the reviews, I saw quite a bit of people recommended the beef patties, curry goat and jerk chicken so I figured I'd try those. The only thing additional I ordered were the drinks and coconut cake. I got the pineapple ginger and passion fruit drinks, the food, and some mild and spicy beef patties. I did like that they had the option for mild and spicy, because I can only tolerate a little spice, enough to flavor the food.
The food was ok. The curry goat was salty and the texture was a tad bit too chewy. Between that or the combination of that and the pineapple ginger drink, it left a weird sensation on my tongue, almost tingly and it felt as if it had this weird coating on my tongue following me eating it and drinking. At some point I had stopped eating not because I was full but it was becoming a chore to try to finish, so I stopped eating. My rice was fine but I just got white rice, plaintains were good, fried dumpling was ok, wasnt fond of the texture, not ftied dry enough, and the cabbage was spoiled so I couldnt eat it. When I first opened the plate I didnt pick up on the scent of the cabbage until I was about to eat it. I still tried a little bit to confirm if thats what I smelled, and for sure it was off. My girls had the curry goat as well but with rice and peas. The rice and peas was ok for them as well but my oldest didnt care for the texture of the curry goat either. She ended up trying the cabbage before I realized it was spoiled, but didnt eat any more because she said it tasted horrible. For the jerk chicken it was beautiful, I'll give them that. I was almost sorry I didnt get that when I saw the beautiful presentation. When we opened the plate though that jerk scent never hit us and we smelled the chicken closely but couldnt pick up on the jerk scent. The chicken was also dry with very minimum spice. We're used to jerk chicken that smells so good the scent hits your nose from the block as your passing whoever is making it, and they would make it dripping with juices and spicy and served with bread. Its usually so spicy that I can only have a little bit but would always try it because its so mouth watering good. Yes, so the jerk chicken was no jerk chicken we are familiar with and the seasoning was like a dry rub seasoning but still not much seasoning to the pallete. My husband asked me if I saw Jamaicans working there, I told him I heard a few of them speaking who were Jamaicans but I dont know about the chefs. None of the food tasted like any of the food were used to in the Caribbean. I'm not from Jamaica but we have a lot of Jamaican restaurants back home, and quite a bit of our foods are intertwined; the curry goat, beef patties, jerk chicken and oxtails to name a few. So, we were hoping for some good Jamaican food to remind us of home but we didnt find it here. I was supposed to try the fried fish, it looks like they have snappers, and we love fried snappers and make a lot of fish and seafood back home in the Caribbean, so I would still go back again to try the fish and oxtail, then I'll be able to say whether or not I'll go back. The beef patties, were ok but doesnt come close to home, it was too crusty. The drinks werent bad. The ginger in the pineapple ginger drink was potent and the pineapple was sweet, too sweet for my liking. It was made with pineapple nectar I believe, and I'm never a fan of nectars because their sugar content is too high, and its usually too thick. My neice liked the pineapple ginger drink; however, and my oldest daughter liked the passion...
Read moreSo this was my first time trying this place and I honestly could have not tried it but since it’s very popular I thought why not. I have this rule where I try the rice first because I’m a rice person n that tells me everything I need to know about a spot. So I originally was going to get the jerk pork with the rice n extra gravy but the lady said they was out. So I got oxtails instead (I was going to get the pork with oxtail gravy to see how the gravy taste first before I got oxtails on this trip just so I can see if buying the oxtails would be worth it) but anywho , So the rice here was very hard, bland n it taste old (even with gravy added to it) , the oxtails are very bland as well with a faint taste (like they don’t marinate they meat good)there’s really not much flavor to them. Like the taste is there but it’s not. The raw / uncooked dumpling (or whatever it is) was not good (I don’t like dumplings tbh) unless they are cooked/fried. The cabbage is absolutely bland as well but has a nice crunch n texture to it. I hate bland cabbage my moms make the best cabbage. Overall, the oxtails here are not all that. I miss my hometown oxtails n my moms oxtails as well because I can’t seem to find no place here in Orlando that makes EXCELLENT oxtails. And for the price which was exactly $18.56 for a small that basically had 4 pieces of oxtails in them (one big size oxtail n the rest was small) was not worth it either. You’re better off getting a large because they pile that plate up. You would think the small would be kindav equivalent to how the large looks but nope they skimp you with the meat on a small. If I didn’t ask for extra gravy you would be able to see the individual 4 pieces of oxtails. You should not be done with your meat in less than 5 mins lol but I guess that’s what you get when you get a “small”. I’m happy I got a small tho because I would’ve been upset with the large (all this bland meat n rice for $23 plus no ma’am) Yeah I give this place oxtails a 4 out of 10. You’re better off cooking your own meal at home. On a good note the service seems nice, the young lady at the front desk was nice n professional. I may come back to try the jerk pork n oxtail Patties.
Sn: the plantain is ok. It’s not too sweet but it taste old. They only give you one for a...
Read moreI placed an order 2 days for a simple order of 24 patties went to pick up my order today and when the person got there they tried to give her cold patties that I did not order I asked for a refund and the manager who was completely rude ignored me and denied me my refund that sauce is a third party and that my issue. Management is rude, service is horrible I just want my complete refund with tip. Sunshine Caribbean bakery is the worst and I will never be back. I need my complete refund of $84.41 which is including the tip that was automatically added. I will never do business with that business either again. I need a full refund back to my card immediately since the stupid manager doesn't know her job. I will be there tomorrow in person to get my refund of sauce doesn't give me my refund today. I hate this business I'm still in such shock of what happened because it was no reason for it
how do I make a formal complaint to the owner on the manager on duty? She refused to give her name but I do have a picture of her. She completely walked away from me and was extremely rude without me even saying anything. I asked for the best where to reach out to sauce the lady told me she doesn't know and I need to figure it out because sauce is a third party. I told I went on the restaurant direct website to placed my order and it directed me to sauce. She completely ignored me and walked away from the phone she was shouting and yelling over the phone before I even said anything, I had to ask her numerous time to calm down which she instead yell more. Never received service as such before especially when I'm not getting anything for free. Attach...
