This place has the WORST food I have ever had in Orlando, not just Mexican food, but food in general. The fact that this place has anything over 3 star rating is proof of just how much people are content with mediocrity and it doesn't surprise me with this location being so close to the theme parks.
The fact that this place was empty should have been a dead giveaway, no music, just a quiet restaurant, and not just any kind of restaurant but a Mexican restaurant that are usually known for being vibrant and loud with a community that is proud of their culture and food. Instead this place looks like what could be a good Mexican restaurant with murals and other Mexican inspired thematics but instead it just feels dated and sad, maybe from better days? I've never sat down and had a meal at any restaurant that didn't have any background music or ambiance.
Moving onto the food, the chips and salsa were bland, the chips were served at room temperature, had no seasoning or salt and the salsa was definitely just either canned or made a few days ago from how watery it was. I was going to get additional appetizers but the chips were a warning to steer away. Instead I opted out and tried one of the chicken dishes off their "recommended" items list. When I tell you I wouldn't recommend that dry chicken to anyone, let alone a dog. The chicken was very obviously some frozen packaged grilled chicken, served with plastic esque queso splattered on top of it with some Mexican rice that was dry and old, and a small splatter of dark green guacamole and lettuce and other side pieces. This also came with a corn tortilla that resembled more of a used scrubbing surface than a tortilla, with how dry and black on the edges it was. The meal as a whole lacked any love, it lacked any true Mexican flavor that I've had plenty of times from the many other fantastic Mexican restaurants in the area, even Universal Studios, down the road serves better Mexican inspired dishes.
The food was served lukewarm, just like how I felt after leaving this establishment. Fortunately Taco Bell is across the street and offered a more authentic and filling meal than my meal here. You are more likely to get a more authentic meal from Chili's and probably get better service too.
Do yourself a favor and steer away, or drive 5 minutes down the road to...
Read moreMy family and I were in the haunt for a mexican restaurant that could satisfy our raging craving for some tequila and spice. At El Potro, we achieved that and much more. Not we drank the best tequila of our lives, but we had amazingly delicious main courses to go along with them.
They receive you with nachos and salsa, substancial and satisfying enough to not need to ask for a starter. The nachos were great, but the real mvp was the salsa: pure perfection. We actually liked the restaurant so much that we went there twice, and the second time the salsa was way more spicy! For me, that means and upgrade hehe.
As for the main dishes, I highly recommend the Chicken Tacos! The Bistec a la Diabla was also fantastic and the Chimichangas, my mom's order, out of this world. The San Jose Chicken Salad, very delicious and fresh, super recommended as well. They also have a kids menu in case you have picky children. My sister is, indeed, very picky so she ordered fried chicken with french fries, and she loved it!
For dessert, we tried the Flan, the Fried Ice Cream and the Churros, which are undoubtly my recommendation. Nonetheless, if looking for something less filling, the Flan is a lighter option that will equally satisfy a sweet tooth!
Besides its outstanding food, El Potro stands out for its incredible service: quick, informative, kind and welcoming. The waiters were knowledgeable about the menu and gave us really good recommendations, which was aprecciated as the menu is quite large and choosing a dish can be tough! Of course, I must mention that they were also attentive and helpful at all times, another plus to this experience.
The prices are extremely reasonable, furthermore, I would qualify this restaurant as pretty cheap.
Overall, El Potro is a must-go place to eat out at Orlando. Its cuisine is top notch, just like its people and the service...

El Potro is a culinary gem that truly stands out in every aspect. From the moment we walked in, the staff's warm welcome and attentive service set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.
The live music was nothing short of extraordinary, adding a vibrant and lively atmosphere that perfectly complemented the delicious fare. Each note seemed to resonate with the flavors on our plates, creating a symphony of taste and melody.
Now, let's talk about the food - an absolute feast for the senses! The flan was a delicate finale, offering a smooth, caramel-kissed conclusion to our meal. The Chapala dish was a revelation - a delightful fusion of flavors and textures that left us craving more.
The Guadalajara dish was a triumph of traditional Mexican cuisine, showcasing the culinary heritage of the region with every savory bite. The Enchilada Supreme was a harmonious blend of rich sauces and tender fillings, a true testament to the chef's expertise.
For our little ones, the Chicken Tenders and Fries Kids Meal was a hit! The crispy tenders were a perfect balance of juicy and crunchy, while the golden fries were a delicious sidekick. It's a rare gem to find a restaurant that caters so well to both adults and children.
And let's not forget the grand finale - the Churros with Ice Cream! This dessert was a celebration in itself. The churros were delightfully crisp, while the creamy, cold ice cream added a playful contrast.
El Potro is more than a restaurant; it's a sensory celebration that tantalizes taste buds, serenades the ears, and warms the heart with its exceptional staff. A visit here is not just a meal, it's an experience that lingers long after the last bite. A true testament to the...
