nice little spot tucked away in iFresh, to the right when you enter. They offer quite a variety of comfort food for asians - hainanese chicken, crispy pork belly, khao soi, pad see ew, etc. I liked the sense of place - stools and small seating spaces next to the kitchen. it was cozy and vaguely had southeast asia vibes.
i got the mix of fried chicken and hainanese chicken. The fried chicken was good, crispy and paired perfectly with the sweet chili sauce. The hainanese chicken was okay, tender and somewhat silky, but i felt that it didn't match with the provided sauces. Besides the chili sauce, they gave a very sweet and very salty soy sauce and ginger scallion sauce. I would have preferred a more mild soy sauce. The rice was cooked with a little too much water, but it tasted good anyways. The broth was yummy though slightly different in flavour to what i expected, but that's not a problem really. In any case, it satisfied my nostalgia, tasted good, and that's all I really needed. Oh the people were nice too, they gave a sample of their slushi thai iced tea which was yummy. Price is a bit high imo but the portions are very large compared to what you'd see overseas.
The khao soi looked really good and was served in a giant bowl, so i'll prohably get that next time. I got the vague feeling that, though the menu spans many different asian cultures, that there was a thai influence running throughout. I'd recommend checking it out, it's a unique experience with...
Read moreOk so I believe every other review for this place is from people that dined in or maybe their friends and family dined in because the food portions and taste for what we paid, is definitely NOT worth the money. Easy to order but we didn't get to eat there like we wanted to because they only have one table and a small booth for 4 people and they were occupied. Anyway, it was our first time ordering from there and the last. We get our order 20 minutes later and we were very disappointed to say the least. We got the bbq pork, curry chicken, coconut soup and the pork spring rolls. All of the food was warm, except the 3 spring rolls which were the size of my finger I swear, the bbq pork was nothing but super fatty pork and all dishes we got lacked flavor. The food portion was ridiculously small that we left hungry for the $40 + we paid for 2 dishes, tiny rolls and a soup. We did notice the food portions being a lot more, if you're lucky enough to eat at their 1 table or mini booth, than the small "to-go" containers we got. But we won't be coming back for those prices or lack of flavor anyway. I will not recommend this place to anyone. Don't...
Read moreHow often does one get the chance to say their favorite meal is on a countertop, inside an Asian grocery store? I can say this often, and often I do. We may be lucky to live a part of Orlando that has so many wonderful Asian cuisine options, but none compare to the authenticity and adoration of Meng’s. It’s not just the consistent incredible quality, or the flavor, or the friendly service I often feel undeserving of- it’s good food. Really good food. A level of quality of food restaurants around the world couldn’t even dream of being able to create. When at Meng’s, the state of my hunger only accelerates when I can see my food being prepared through the window; an opportunity some restaurants would dare not take - but one Meng’s embraces. I often miss Anthony Bourdain and his adventures - I miss him more when thinking of this restaurant - as it represents what he would love about it - an incredible place to dine, at a honest price, and a humble attitude, that finds its way into the food. I cannot wait to be back again, and...
