I was so excited to have Too Jay’s it had been a really long while, and I was going to Tomassino’s when my friend recommended we tried Too Jay’s and I enthusiastically agreed. There seem to be no lack of manpower yet everyone seemed to be too busy to focus on the few customers that were in the store. We had to wait about two mins for anyone to come greet us, then two servers proceeded to have a very calm, yet indiscreet argument about who should be our server right in front of us. The male server seemed to be ready to leave, after we sat down about 5 mins later he came to greet us, then after about 3 mins he came back with the drinks and said he’d be right back to take our order. During this time multiple servers are just walking around the restaurant, one of them actually sat down right next to us and was just texting on her phone, meanwhile the server who had brought our drinks was walking around and then he came out and had already taken off his apron, and just looked at us, and turned to the other server sitting down on the table next to us, and both of them just ignored us, and that’s when I got up and left. I asked for the manager, and Heather came out and was very apologetic, but I really just wanted her to be aware of what had just transpired. It’s really sad what is happening in restaurants, good service is so hard to find, but it’s not impossible, I’m sitting down at ale house right now having a delightful time with a great server who is juggling multiple tables who were sat back to back. Fire the waste, and inspire the best, so that they can pick up the slack when necessary.

Walking with my beloved back into TwoJays on Colonial Street felt like opening a photo album I didn’t know about. She came here as a young teenager in the 90s, when her parents would slide into one of the booths and order matzo ball soup while she tried (unsuccessfully) to finish one of their mile-high pastrami sandwiches. Coming back as an adult, she realized not much has changed and that’s exactly what makes this place special. TwoJays still leans into that old-fashioned diner style. polished counters, vinyl booths, and a menu that could double as a novella. The servers move with a kind of practiced rhythm, balancing plates of brisket, potato knishes, and deli classics like they’ve been here forever. It’s comfort food with history, the kind of place where regulars greet the staff by name. What really took me back was the soundtrack. Mounted TVs play endless loops of 80s music videos—think Hall & Oates, Madonna, Springsteen, blending seamlessly with the clinking of cutlery and bursts of laughter from the next booth over. It creates this strangely timeless feeling, like you’ve stepped into a pocket where the decades blur but the food remains the same.

We regularly get TooJays takeout at least once a month. The past few times, when we ordered 1 pound of lean corned beef, a full 1/4 pound of it was fat. They did not trim it. So when my husband told the carver to please make it lean (cut off the fat) he said "That's the way the corned beef comes.". So, I cut off all the fat and weighed it. The way I figure, TooJays owes me at least 1/4 pound of corned beef refund for this past week and for the past few times we ordered. Corned beef is very expensive and I can no longer pay for fat. The fact that the person cutting the meat said it came that way, probably means that is how sandwiches are made too. How disappointing. Corned Beef is my comfort food and I will no longer get it there. Below are photos of "Lean Corned Beef" we purchased. The second is when I trimmed the 1/4 lb of fat off it when I was home. The third is the address where purchased. Any idea where I can get good kosher corned beef lean?

I do hope you are all safe & well.

My name is Susan, I am employed with the United States Army and I am half Caucasian and half African American.

I visited your establishment Sunday night, August 22, for the first time. Despite the three people behind the counter, I was not met with a single greeting into this establishment.

I immediately spoke with a Caucasian gentleman, whom was waiting in line for his order, and asked him if they were taking numbers. He looked at me perplexed and shrugged his shoulders stating he didn’t know.

There were three people behind that desk; a taller gentleman and two younger girls. The taller gentleman behind the counter appeared to hear my question to the gentleman in line, but selected not to respond.

Due to the waiting area being full, I backed up to provide space for those before me to be assisted. After everyone was taking care of I was still waiting to be helped. The three staff members continued to work on other orders without any efforts to assist me.

After moments of standing there waiting to be helped, a gentleman that was making sandwiches on the left side of the counter station has asked if I’d been helped yet to which I responded no; his name was John.

John assisted me with explaining what your establishment provides and how it works based on what I was looking for. He was attentive, patient and very kind.

While John was completing my order, I noticed the other three employees just standing around and whispering to each other. While it’s not certain the things that they were saying, it made me extremely uncomfortable.

Once John was done with my order he brought it to the front counter and told these same employees what I ordered so that I could cash out. The tall Caucasian gentleman cashed me out, took my money and didn’t even crack a smile, speak or even say thank you. He simply placed my receipt on the counter and walked off before I could even sign it.

One of the younger female employees took my sandwich container and put it inside of a bag and handed it to me with no regard.

I felt like I was not welcomed in your place of business, as if I should have never stepped foot inside. As a paying customer, I have never felt so depreciated in my life. If it weren’t for John and his excellent customer service, I probably would have taken my business elsewhere.

I made sure to say thank you to John for his great quality service to which he replied, I hope to see you again. I did assure John that unfortunately I do not plan to revisit this establishment again as this was my first and will be my last time coming to this place. John did apologize and showed empathy for my frustration.

I would not have given this place one star but because of John’s excellent customer service and his friendly personality .. this one star...

My daughter took me to the Colonial plaza location on 11/20/22 at approximately 3pm for hot chocolate and snacks. We arrived at the host stand to be seated. The host had her back to us, sorting menus. We were the only people in line. After a waiting for her to acknowledge us, she finally turned around to us and said and I quote “I’m going to finish what I’m doing then I will be able to seat you”. She then turned and presented her back to us again. My daughters jaw dropped and she whispered to me if I would like to go across the street to Panera. I said no and we would wait. And to my surprise that is exactly what we did. We stood there, no other customers behind us and waited till she sorted her menus. After several minutes she then turned around and looked at the two of us and said two??? We get to our table and Kyle our server is ready to take our order. What New York deli has no hot chocolate? So I ordered hot tea. My daughter orders a sandwich which Kyle comes back said and I quote “the kitchen didn’t do the prep that day for that sandwich so it’s unavailable. “ My daughter then orders something else. When her food comes I ask of any pastries they have. Kyle said he didn’t know but if we wanted him to find out, he would go check. Ummmm I said yes please. He came back with three pastries for me to select. I picked Apple and was brought to me ice cold. Let me add at this point we had plates and food but not one utensils or napkins. We were hungry so we picked at our food with our fingers. Before we knew it we had finished our food. My hands were so sticky from the pastry and having no napkin, I went to the bathroom to wash me hands… no paper towels. Went back to our table and kyle walked by never stopping and put our bill on the table. I guess that’s our que to leave. We didn’t know if we were supposed to wait for him to come back to pay or take the bill up front and pay ourselves… he didn’t stop to tell us. We flagged down another server who told us what to do. As we walked out of restaurant my daughter looked at me and said I’m sorry they didn’t have the hot chocolate and warm pastry you wanted and I said to her and I’m sorry the didn’t have the sandwich you wanted or any napkins or utensils as well. Maybe some paper towels in the ladies room would have been nice too. We should have left when the hostess was...

My husband and I went there for a late lunch and early dinner thing one weekend. We were kinda hungry when we arrived. The place wasn't that busy. About 5/6 tables were being attended to by 2 woman servers. The shorter one was flustered and the other one was really angry looking and really didn't want to be there. We passed a man at the podium who did say hello but he never looked up from his phone as he was texting someone. We then sat down at a booth. We looked at the menu and I got up and told my husband that I was going to the bathroom to wash my hands and I wanted water light ice in case they asked. When I returned he said that he wasn't served yet then got up to do the same thing and asked for a Coke. When he returned we both really looked at the menu and decided what we wanted but still no one served yet (was going on 15 minutes). The one server that was really angry kept looking at us with a extremely nasty hateful looks from across the room and tables that she was currently serving and deliberately ignored taking our order. The guy who was at the podium sighed and said that he was soooo bored and walked away from the dinning area. We waited patiently and politely for anyone to come over to take care of us, when no one came after about 35+ minutes my husband and I decided that it was time to go get food elsewhere. We were so hungry by then. We got up and started to walk towards the door when the flustered server rushed over to finally take our order. We told her that we were waiting for 35+ minutes and no one wanted to serve us so we took the hint to take our business elsewhere. She begged and pleaded for us to stay and return to our seats. We said no that we waited long enough and that no one even wanted our drink order. She was shocked. No one took your drink order? We said no and have a great day. We left never to return due to the really disappointing and inexcusable experience. It's a shame too because we really loved...
