I am not a coffee shop person---mostly because the pretentiousness of Paneras for example or the cold corporate sterile (not necessarily clean--more of a cold calculated, we count every bean atmosphere ) of a Starbucks---who needs it. But yesterday I wanted a tea and I saw Biggby on Granada and went in. Shocking is all I can say. The place is cozy, immaculate and above all else, warm and friendly. The owner and his assistant were beyond friendly. The assistant even offered me a tea bag to take home as it was a flavor I had not tried. True empowerment, he did not ask the owner, he did not even hesitate---he simply took a foil sealed tea bag out of the box and handed it to me. If I am going to stop at a coffee shop, which again, I rarely do, this is the type of atmosphere I want, immaculate surroundings, an actual host/owner, and staff personnel who are in place to exceed a guest's expectations. After all, what is it you seek when having a coffee---pretentious, corporate, callousness---to me that is the antithesis of what you want when you go for a coffee. Ormond Beach, FL. Originating in Michigan, this location is the first Biggby Coffee to open in Florida. I walked in needing caffeine and was greeted by someone who was either the owner or manager who welcomed me, explained the menu, gave recommendations and answered my questions. “Biggby Coffee doesn’t have corporate offices. We are entrepreneurs passionate about Biggby Coffee.”

I got the 16 oz. mint mocha latte which is on the regular menu. It’s made with dark chocolate, mint, and optional whipped cream, yummmmm. This week they still have the seasonal peppermint mocha with candy cane topping on whipped cream and another snow mint mocha made with white chocolate and mint candy topping. If you’re like me and are missing peppermint mochas cry no more, get you some Biggby’s.

If I hadn’t had dinner I’d have tried the Bragel, a breakfast bagel sandwich which sounded amazing.
