Christmas Eats in Arizona: A Culinary Adventure

UPDATE as of 5/22/23: we hadn't been here in a while and discovered they have had dine-in for a while. We had two outstanding meals even better than anything we remember here. Beef mushu and sizzling tofu with vegetables. Plus a serving of hot and sour soup. The flavors and fresh vegetables were terrific and the portions were excellent. Service was fast and friendly. I'm thinking the ownership may have changed in the last few years. Definitely give this restaurant a try if you haven't been here. ORIGINAL REVIEW: My husband and I really enjoy their food. We did lots of dine-in. And now that all restaurants are takeout only during COVID-19, we're enjoying that! The take out food is ready very promptly and they take all the right precautions for sanitary handling. Recently we enjoyed their chow fun dishes, Kung Pao beef, and the eggplant dish. However, they have plenty of menu options.

Vegetables with white sauce was delicious, wok-cooked to perfection and all veggies were fresh not from a can. Mongolian Beef was generous in portion and full of flavor, and made with real sliced beef unlike what most other Chinese restaurants we've tried serve. As I'm not a spicy hot food fellow, I'd ask the chef next time to turn the heat down to very mild. It took several gulps of water to finally get used to the chili heat and enjoy the dish. The pork egg foo young was generously filled with freshly cooked veggies and served with gobs of delicious brown gravy. Chen Dee, the chef's daughter served us expertly with a smile. She is very knowledgeable about ingredients and cooking methods. China Valley Chinese Restaurant is a long-awaited gift to Oro Valley, in fact, to Greater Tucson.

We ordered our dinner via GrubHub for tonight’s dinner. When my dad and husband arrived at the scheduled time for pickup, they stated they didn’t receive the PAID order because they “forgot to check that app”. They had to wait for them to prepare the food during a busy dinner service in a TINY dining room. When they finally arrived home, we discovered that they failed to include an item. It happened to be the only item I could eat on their menu due to dietary restraints. When I called, I explained the entire situation to her and wanted to make sure they didn’t charge us for the item. Midway through the conversation, she just handed the phone to another woman who asked how SHE could help me - causing me NOW to be frustrated and annoyed. The person I spoke to was flippant about the mistake and said they refunded the card.

This location is 20 minutes from my house. Going back for a missed item and still having dinner with my family was impossible. Thanks for nothing!!!

We’ll NEVER be ordering there again.

Can’t add a photo ad I didn’t...

China Valley Szechuan Tucson It's conveniently located from the hotel. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. This restaurant still has that old time mom and pop Asian family feel it's a definite classic type vibe with an older Chinese up front taking orders and the rest of the family in the back cooking and putting to go orders together. I've been there many times i've enjoyed Pod stickers, Hot and sour soup, wonton soup as Appetizers And a large war wonton soup Mongolian beef, Mushu shrimp mushu pork, Sesame chicken, curry chicken and Singapore noodles my favorite for dinner. It's about being realistic this is not a mall based restaurant or a high end bistro somewhere. The food was well prepared hot and delicious. I always like to support a local family owned business. It's good value for the money. With great food excellent service and a nice atmosphere. I am sure I will back...
