I'm commenting as someone who has been going to Bar 430 since it opened. Loved the concept and it's the style of bar that Oshkosh had really been lacking. It has great ambience/decor and a delicious brunch. Started out with great service but over the past year or so we have watched it decline. I've been here only a handful of times over the past few months and reluctantly took my parents there for dinner last Saturday night. That experience is what prompted me to write this review. The service has been consistently awful. Rude bartenders, many of whom are more focused on their cell phones than their guests. There never seems to be any organization (who's manning the bar and who is taking tables - one person should not do both) or management of the staff. I'm hoping they can find a way to bring this place back to where it started! We loved coming to Bar 430 but it would take a lot to get me to agree to go back there. Again, Oshkosh is in need of classy establishments and this could be a great 'go-to' destination - just need a little more focus on the...
Read moreBar 430 could be considered trendy and/or hipster, with exposed brick walls, pink-haired bartenders, and a variety of microbrews, but we're in our 50s and had a nice time there. All the staff was very friendly and they put their own twists on standard cocktails like Moscow Mules and Old Fashioneds. If you prefer your drinks more traditional, don't worry -- they'll be happy to oblige. The menu isn't huge but it seems to be a nice variety. We tried the carne asada and they were fabulous. Not a typical taco, though. Real chunks of tender steak with red peppers, thinly sliced fingerling potatoes, remoulade and cilantro. You get 3 for $12 with no sides, so that may seem a bit pricey for small town Wisconsin folks used to getting tons of food for almost nothing, but I thought they were great and I'd get them again. But next time I may go with the deconstructed pot pie. And we definitely need to try the brunch! Hoping it'll warm up soon so we can sit outside on the sidewalk...
Read moreRefused service....It's just after 9, they serve food late, they are in walking distance from the hotel... Oh wait. They won't serve me because they are having a beer and food tasting tonight and it is a fixed menu. I'm fine with that, I am really hungry and there is no other place to eat. "Please Take my money for some food and drink." Nope! As I watch them bringing food out for others Seriously. I understand private parties but this wasn't one. I was told it was a beer tasting... Hmmm. I like beer, and spend money on good beer too.. I even left and came back and asked a second time if I could just get whatever was on the fixed menu. No sir. Next time I'm in town for business I will not bring my clients here. I won't recommend this place. I will tell people that I was refused service because.... I wanted to spend my money there....hmm....
