The Ruby Owl Tap Room — Restaurant in Oshkosh

My family have been customers since RO opened. Historically we have had solid 4 star food and service. Great beer selection as always. The food quality has dropped a bit, but I still get a decent plate most of the time. What really bums me out, and the reason I 'm wtiting this review... is the very poor quality of service, food, and resolution we received recently. Our family came to celebrate our daughters academic achievements and RO has always been a sure thing for a nice time. It started going south from the start. Our server lacked personality and seemed to have no interest in our existence beyond writing down our orders. She was not rude, just expressionless and appeared somewhat "out of it". Pro tip: If you are waiting on friendly and respectful customers.... at least pretend like you care and maybe try and crack a small smile at minimum. Our drinks came out fairly quick, as well as soup and the first of 3 appetizers, cheese curds. 20 minutes later we still had not received our other two appetizers. We hailed our server and asked her to just box up the rest of our order and bring the bill. About 10 minutes later she brings us a bag with three boxes and takes our card and bill. We check the boxes because there should have only been 2 boxes. Sure enough it was not our apps, but someone else's dinners. At this point we have been at RO for over an hour and had 1 round of drinks and cheese curds that were lackluster (very greasy and more batter than cheese). Finally another employee (very nice and apologetic) says the rest of our order was given to another table. They refunded the cost of that portion of the order (our server had already charged us for the full order) but still charged us for the poor food and service. Whatever. The point of all this is... if this were my business I would have been embarrassed and appalled that my customers had such a poor experience. Yes, it only takes one employee with a careless attitude to spoil an evening. I hope this was just a one off experience and things...

We’ve been here a number of times but just did not have a great experience this most recent time. We went at admittedly their busiest time, around 6:30 on a Friday, but we were served our drinks quickly and got our appetizer after a slightly longer 20-30 minute wait but otherwise with no issues. Unfortunately, the kitchen ended up deleting our ticket on accident and no one caught it until about 30-40 minutes after our order went in originally. Our server, who was very kind and apologetic, put our order back in for us as soon as they realized the mistake. If that’s all that happened it would be fine, but after about another 25 minutes our food came out pretty bad. My wife’s burger was gray all around, dripping in grease, undercooked, missing toppings and the ones that were there were clearly just thrown on in a rush. My chicken sandwich was also overcooked on top of it. I want to be crystal clear that our server handled the situation well and I don’t fault her at all, but all in all we ended up waiting over an hour for pretty poor quality food. Our experience this time is an outlier overall but it was a pretty low point and we’re going to avoid the place...

This food is AH-MAZING!!! I will definitely come back when I am in town. We all ordered something different and shared. EVERYTHING tasted so good! It's REAL food. Not just microwaved burger patties or cheesecurds. Ruby Owl's burgers, hot sandwiches (I loved the Reuben), and appetizers were top-notch! My family enjoyed their meal very much. My 8 year old wanted another order of cheesecurds-they were so good, we went ahead and ordered it-because-YUM!! We made some substitutions because of our diet, and they were able to accommodate with ease. We also asked questions about food preparation, and they were happy to answer. I don't have any pictures of the food because we ate it up! They offer regular table seating and the high barstool type seating. My children would have loved the higher chairs, but I find them very uncomfortable. The waitstaff was helpful and friendly. The prices are a tad higher than say, Culvers, but the food tastes so much better and authentic. We didn't realize this, but there is parking in the back-so convenient.
