Update 8/26/25: Two weeks later my husband and I are both still sick from this restaurant with something that won’t go away on its own. Headed to the doctor later this week. We’ve never been so ill before and are very upset. We have never reported anyone to the health department before either. Also, after I wrote this review, within hours a number of new five star reviews buried my review. It happened overnight. All of the five-star reviews were from users who reviewed only one restaurant: Hokibar. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.
Update 8/17/25: the Hokibar management is claiming we never ate there, so we’ve attached our receipts in case the management of this restaurant would like to see the date & time stamp and reference number for our order.
We had an awful experience at this restaurant. My husband and I ate here on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at about 3 pm. We both had build-your-own bowls with beef tataki. Several hours later we were horribly ill with either food-borne illness or food poisoning. We’ve been so sick for three days, now, that we’ve been researching which urgent care clinic to go to if we become too dehydrated. We found other reviews that also reported food poisoning on another site. Read moreWe went to Hokibar for a sushi pick-up order and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. The only way to order was through your phone or a self-serve tablet, and there was no way to even get a receipt. We ordered three rolls, two miso soups, and a veggie spring roll. The rolls were completely fallen apart and warm, and the spring roll was cold definitely not what you’d expect. The only thing that was good were the miso soups.
On top of that, we waited 57 minutes at the restaurant for our pick-up order, and it felt like they cared more about getting DoorDash orders out than helping actual customers who were standing inside waiting. When we finally got our food, there was no soy sauce or chopsticks in the bag. We were staying only two minutes away, so there’s no way the sushi warmed up or the spring roll cooled down in transit. UPDATE 8/26: Updating this review since others have posted since. I updated the date because we actually ate here 8/12. Just getting back to feeling somewhat normal after 12 full days of horrible symptoms. We were never tested so I don’t know what was in the sushi that caused the symptoms. Whatever it was, this was absolutely the worst food poisoning I have ever had. We had to take off work and one family member went to the ED for dehydration. If other posters got tested, please post your results so that we can seek additional treatment if needed.
