Never Again! I booked a dinner reservation for a party of four with my typical server of choice, Steven. I was told on the phone when I booked that I would have Steven, I confirmed when I checked in with the teenaged girl at the hostess stand that I was booked with Steven, who confirmed that I was indeed booked to have Steven. When I was seated, I was greated by someone who was not the requested server, and I had previous poor service from in the past. When a hostess, another teenager walked by the table I asked her to summon the manager, and she walked away without acknowledging me either way.
A few minutes later the manager walked within proximity of my table and looked at his tablet and in my direction, thinking the girl did report it, but he walked away and no action was taken. A few moments later, when I saw my requested server, I walked to him, who was standing next to the same manager and asked why I was not assigned to him as my server when I had reservations for him specifically again, asked if he knew what was up and said if it was not fixed that I would not be returning.
Within 10 minutes, the servers who were given to me showed up, approximately 30 minutes after arrival to take the order for the table. Not my requested or reserved server. The table decided after waiting for so long for them to return, to go ahead and to order or not know when anything would be addressed or corrected tonight. To say that dinner was acceptable was an understatement when drinks were not filled, you did not see your servers, and when dinner showed up it was just dropped off at the table. No confirmation if the order was correct, not asking if anything was needed, nothing. My wife had to flag down people to get additional assistance for an item with her steak.
You put rules out for the dinning experience on your website, you have people drop a couple of hundred dollars a visit, and request a certain server, and when promised that, you fail to deliver.
Then provide probably the worst service ever at this location, by crews that could have cared less about guests that were there. When we were ready to leave we had items still on plates such as the majority of my prime rib and sides as it was sitting for a while when it was finally served. That it was served cool, as with everyone elses meals at the table.
When you do not see your server or anyone else, you cannot address the concern or complain, we kept ourselves entertained and made a suggestion that we could go to a greasy spoon diner and have a hot meal and better service. Since we had existing plans that were time sensative and needed to prepare to leave I had to ask for a box to take it home! Then had to ask for a bag. This never happens, this entire visit was sub par for the money I spent and I can honestly say I will no longer spend another dime in your restaurant.
I only asked for a reservation to be honored as promised with a specific server who I have utilized numerous times over the past year. Steven knows me and my wife by name, our drinks, our order and makes our night delightful. Not this night, and shame on the staff for not following through with the request to fetch the manager, or acknowledge loyal guests who frequent the restaurant two to three times a month and spend several hundred...
Read moreMy spouse and I came to J Alexander’s for lunch. Evan was our server. He was outstanding. Attentive and eager to give us a great experience. We expect nothing less at this restaurant. We come to J Alexander’s because we know we will get the quality of food and service that we pay for. I’ve had almost everything on the menu. I love love their menu. My spouse got the rattlesnake pasta which was delicious as usual. I normally get the Ahi salad because it’s quick and delicious, but today I decided to get the cheeseburger MISTAKE
I ordered the burger medium, expecting a slight pink in the middle. The burger is extremely overcooked it’s grey and crumbling. Poor cow. This premium beef had so much potential, your chef cooked the life out of it (literally) Quite frankly I would’ve taken it medium rare, over grey and lifeless. We are in a hurry, bc of course it’s lunch. I let the server know, “hey Evan just a heads up, the burger is way over cooked, I will not take this out of your tip, because you didn’t cook it, but could you let someone know?” I was expecting some sort of follow up from at least a manager. Because this isn’t Chili’s, we spent $91 on lunch because usually ITS WORTH IT at J Alexander’s. I wasn’t expecting a hand me out or for the item to be comped. The beef was premium till your chef got his hands on it. Didn’t mind paying for it. J Alexander usually never let’s us down.
My issue was the lack of manager follow up. No one came by to check in about the food except for Evan. Evan comes back and says, I let someone know about this. I’m so sorry again. Poor kid, it wasn’t his fault. I even saw him in the kitchen say something about it. He did his part. But the manager didn’t. We were just another table. Was it because we were black? Or because the manager was just too busy? Who knows, regardless we felt neglected. And felt no one listened to Evan which could have cost him his tip. Managers should always have their servers backs.
Of course we tip him $20 because he did his job wholeheartedly. But BOOOOO to the kitchen manager and FOH manager. No check in, no follow up, no one...
Read moreI normally don’t give 3 stars if I could give 3 in half I would due to the servers. The servers were pleasant and helpful. The food was good and I would give it also a 3 1/2. Atmosphere is nice. The experience was somewhat disappointing while dining in. Let me explain by first stating that it was a huge miscommunication between our party and the general manager(GM). There was no clarity in the way the GM on duty that evening explained the seating arrangement for our party. We were told that we had to set separately due to the size of our group. What was left out was that the table we were also seated at was not apart of our group and we needed to move. All we were told was that there were only two large seating areas and when others arrive they would have to move to that location all the while we were asking while still seated at this table next to one of the large seating areas (why we were so spread out for a large party?) The poor hostess obviously thought we were being difficult yet in actuality we didn’t understand the fullness of the message being delivered. What was later explained, was that the table seated next to one of the larger seating areas that some of our guests were seated at was not meant for any of us and that there were only two large tables at the time of our reservation to accommodate for a party of 15 and that meant we had to sit in two different areas. Once the nice man with patience clarified, we moved from the table. We literally thought that the table next to one of the larger tables was included in our dining for a party of 15 so we could be seated close together. Anyhow, the first GM who came over didn’t take the time to listen to our questions to provide us with clarification. It was noticeable that the GM was flustered by us not moving from the table at first due to the glances of side eye he gave while speaking with some staff up front. I do wish I had the opportunity to speak with him directly to express that it was all about confusion and misunderstanding. The evening turned out well overall and we did appreciate the attentiveness from...
