Please understand that I am being very factual with this review and not exaggerating at all.
Came here for Brunch on Sunday, February 25th 2018 at about Noon. Restaurant wasn't too busy, we were seated immediately.
Waited about 8 minutes until we got menus and then the lady came back 3 minutes later for our order. Poured fresh coffee and took our order. Our waitress was a young lady with glasses.
30 minutes later we received our appetizers on beignets. 3 of them were completely raw in the middle and the rest were good. Waitress came to check on our appetizers, I told her that the beignets were raw in the middle, I pulled out a huge chunk of dough from the middle (picture attached so you can see I'm not being unreasonable), she told me that's how they come. I travel a lot and have had a few beignets in my life. They're not supposed to be fully cooked but not fully raw either. She didn't really show an attitude but for some reason she was not pleased and just avoided us for the rest of the time. Didn't even check on our food or pour coffee or anything. The manager had to bring out our food and give us the check. I was super polite to her and didn't get loud or rude.
She never returned. A few minutes went by and I asked for a manager, and he brought out our food. Throughout the whole time, our waitress never came to check on our food, she kept going to all the other tables but avoided ours. I don't think this was over the beignets, I personally felt it was because we were the only minority table in the restaurant, my partner whose NOT a minority strongly agreed and felt the same way. Maybe I'm wrong but sometimes you can tell when you get that weird feeling. She constantly checked on the tables around us but avoided us the whole time.
We received our food, it wasn't hot, it was kinda cold. My French fries were definitely cold. The manager poured us more coffee but he was quiet busy running the restaurant (as he should be) so we never finished our coffee because there was no cream and the waitress did not have the common courtesy to check up on us.
Our food was okay, but cold. Coffee was good. French toast was good. The manager was super polite and apologetic. He agreed that our service was terrible and comped our beignets, I didn't expect him to do that but you can tell he was a polite gentleman.
To the waitress...please show some class and respect to your paying customers. Sometimes people make mistakes and customers can also be unrealistic at times although when you're paying $50 for a Bruch, you expect to be treated better regardless of what the issue is. You should always treat people with respect, especially when they're polite. It's the restaurant business, a lot of times people don't like their food, you have to keep calm and try to be polite. My experience with her was probably the worst experience I have ever had in over 30 years of dining out. I hope she has a chance to read my review and this is a learning experience for her.
I will give this restaurant another opportunity when I go back to KC of work. I am giving 2 stars because of the positive experience we received from the manager. I was still classy enough to leave a $10...
Read moreHip fun dive 'bar' that swaps wine for beer to make an alternative pairing with great dive food. My wife and I met her family there who had driven from Illinois to stay for several days. She had heard about it from a FB group of gluten free members. It's a warm cozy restaurant and bar across from The Cheesecake Factory. While we were there on a Tuesday afternoon, it felt more suited for the evening and weekend crowd but no less fun and unique. I ordered the champagne fish and chips (yes the GF breading is soaked in champagne) because I had been craving it since our dinner at another restaurant that wasn't GF. I was richly rewarded with THREE good-sized portions of fish atop a fair amount of sea-salted shoestring fries. Wait, the fries were pre-salted? YEP. Perfectly. I was in heaven. It came with a wedge of lemon for the fish and the aioli on the side because I asked. I'm also soy-intolerant, so anything mayo-based or cooked in soybean oil is a no for me. Thankfully they also cook the fries in canola oil. My wife had the SCB (Serrano cream and bacon jam) burger and added a slice of havarti cheese. I'm drooling just thinking about it. She said the Serrano cream had a tiny bit of heat but not enough to be called spicy. The bacon jam was a sweet and salty mix to die for. Her parents and the Pollo tacos and shrimp tacos and they looked juicy and delicious. They're street tacos that use a corn tortilla. Her sister had a Double Burger. It's a two-patty burger with caramelized onions and "That" sauce. Prices may be in line with a good sit-down "fast"-casual restaurant, but the food and atmosphere will make you want to take your time and enjoy them and your friends or family. The varied selection of wines were also reasonably priced. The sister-in-law had a glass of rose that was good. The service was very good. Friendly staff and waitress. Time to make the food was neither too long nor too quick (for being the only patrons on a quiet Tuesday during...
Read moreWe had reservations for over 2 weeks for 7 people one of which is in a wheelchair. My mom called to confirm reservations and ask if we could add a person - they said that was not an issue. We showed up 10 minutes early to our 5 pm Saturday night reservation. They said they had accidentally canceled our reservations earlier when we called. It was weird. They finally seated us after telling us it was canceled (although we had done no such act). They also didn’t apologize or care really about not having a place ready.
They put two bigger low top tables together in the middle of the restaurant. It was not convenient for a wheelchair as it was in the middle and it was awkward. We had a table that slanted toward the person in the wheelchair.
We ordered wine and the waitress was kind and attentive, but the entire vibe was awkward. We thought they did flights of wine which they do but not on weekends as it overloads the bar tender (which doesn’t really make sense as wait staff can pour wine). The only reason this was a bit of an issue is the birthday girl who was in the wheelchair also can’t eat so we were there for the flights of wine which were unavailable.
The bathroom was not very accessible. We made it in but it was a super tight squeeze so unless it is a smaller chair with a smaller person - I would say it is inaccessible.
The food was OK. I have allergies (gluten and dairy). There are options. I had the guac and chips and Brussel sprouts. Both were OK.
I think it important to note that it was a birthday dinner with someone who doesn’t get to eat out or go out often. It was such a let down to feel unwanted right away. Personally, no one in our group will be going back, it was unimpressive and a let down. Oh, and the floors were slick which weren’t great for me pushing a wheelchair out...
