Maddie Rae's Bakery — Restaurant in Overland Park

I was a customer of Connies by C&J for years, it was part of my weekly routine. It was ran by some of the best ladies that you could know Cindi and Julie. Ownership changed at the first of Dec. 2017, and with in 3 weeks the new ownership managed to lose my business. For years I have ordered cookies for various occasions and this year like in years past I pre-ordered a couple of dozen decorated gingerbread people cookies for a a Christmas function that several children were looking forward to. However, the day that I was to go pick them, which under the previous ownership would of been ready to pick up at 9:00am, I received a call at 8:30am informing me that they wouldn't be ready until after 4:00pm. This sent me scrambling and also having to face the let down of several children. I don't care how good the cookies are, I will not give the new owner...

Ordered cookies for a baby shower. Spent time going over the coloring for the cookies and sent the invite over for their reference. When I arrived to get the cookies, the young gal was decorating a cooking and said she’d be with me in just a minute. She came to give me my pick up and the colors were not what I had expected them to be. I expressed my disappointment and asked what they could do. She wasn’t able to help so she called her manager. She came back and said they tried their best and that I didn’t have to take the cookies. I asked her if she could update a few details on the cookies and was told no, she was not a decorator (same gal who was decorating a cookie prior to my arrival). Needless to say, they did not offer a discount on the cookies, a discount on different cookies, or offer to fix them and have me come tomorrow. I will NOT...

2nd update: this is now Maddie Rae’s Bakery. It’s the same as Connie‘s, high-quality, great tasting cookies. Owned and operated by a local baker who I love to support. Her mom runs the counter some days and is very friendly and helpful.

One of my favorite things to do is frequent bakeries in Kansas City. Connie’s Cookies being one of them. The iced sugar cookies are soft and delicious. I’ve been a customer for some years now. Unfortunately the staff is hit or miss. You can walk in and multiple people are working and no one speaks to you.
