Torreador Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Overland Park

Well. We had a great first experience , then it went south EVERY time we went back! The overwhelming sewer gas smell as you enter should have make anyone turn away. Last Friday was our last experience. the sewer gas smell and only 2 tables on Friday at 6:30 should have indicated something was wrong. The service was un godly slow for only being one of two tables. After we ordered .... the food came and ....well the waiter /guy only got 5 things wrong with our order. He apologized and fixed all his mistakes. The food was BLAH! AS I watched the table across from us a man told the same waiter/guy that there order was wrong too. I then watched him proceed to bring this customer the wrong thing two more times. Final Thought- I know this is a FAMILY owned and run business. It seems to me that this FAMILY has given up! A combined sewer gas smell, crappy service and food that is just Blah will not keep you in business much longer. The more I talk to people about "Torreador" I keep getting the same response; 'What Happened to that Place, It use to be...

This review has nothing to do with the service or ambiance. The service was incredible and friendly. Just some feedback for the chef.

It also has nothing to do with cheap price - as someone who grew up with quality Mexican food close to the border, I have been to incredible cheap Mexican restaurants and terrible high end Mexican restaurants.

I ordered the L1 special, the two enchiladas with rice and beans, one beef, one cheese.

The enchilada sauce tasted almost like it had too much tomato paste in it, I felt like it was the tomato sauce from an Italian restaurant - I couldn’t taste the chiles that had that the wonderful flavors. It wasn’t completely inedible, but pretty mediocre. I don’t know if the sauce was made in-house or bought.

Typically I don’t like chips that are over salted but this was the other end of the spectrum with absolutely zero salt.

I have eaten at this restaurant my entire life and loved the food. Today was awful. Our waitress went on a rant about some guys there that didn’t tip her 30% and when my group of 5 ate 2 baskets of chips she began yelling at us that she was going to charge us extra and that she was going to start charging us for soda refills. I don’t mind being charged for food/drinks but totally unnecessary to yell at customers for eating chips and drinking soda. We had all ordered meals. Told them to cancel it to which she brought out the owner (they must have recently changed ownership because it used to be a super sweet lady). This guy didn’t even want to hear it, threw his hands up and walked away. We left without eating. We will take our business to a small business that wants community support. Avoid this place...
