The star of the show was undoubtedly the Penne Bolognese. I can confidently say that it's the best I've ever had – the pasta cooked to perfection, the meaty, rich Bolognese sauce enveloping every twist and turn of the penne. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and I found myself savoring every mouthful, not wanting it to end. It's the kind of dish that dreams are made of.
Next up was the Lasagna, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The layers of pasta were delicate yet firm, the ricotta and mozzarella cheeses melted in perfect harmony, and the homemade marinara sauce was a revelation. It was like a comforting hug from nonna herself, leaving me feeling warm and satisfied.
And oh, the bread! The freshly baked bread that greeted us at the table was an absolute delight. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and served with a side of olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping – it was the perfect start to our meal. I found myself tearing apart every piece, unable to resist its irresistible aroma and taste.
The service at Viona's Italian Restaurant was impeccable. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the cuisine they served. They made us feel like we were part of their family, and their recommendations were spot on.
The ambiance was equally enchanting, with cozy lighting, Italian decor, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that transported us straight to the heart of Italy.
To sum it all up, Viona's Italian Restaurant is a culinary paradise that offers a taste of Italy like no other. The Penne Bolognese, Lasagna, and that heavenly bread are reasons enough to make this restaurant a regular haunt. I'm already counting down the days until my next visit – it's truly a dining...
Read moreWe had lunch at my FAVORITE new Italian restaurant today. Lucky for us, it's their second day open. So it looks like I will be one of the first to review this charming little bistro, situated next door to Brew Lab (Old Overland Park).
Everything about this little gem of a restaurant was top-notch. If you remember the lunch/deli concept that was in this space, it's completely remodeled - much more spacious and warm (see pictures). The decor is rustic and fitting for the ambiance. They have retained the outdoor patio, so when the weather is nice this will be a wonderful spot to dine after a walk through the farmer's market (right across the street). During the day, there's lots of light coming in the large windows at the front of the space. It's an interesting location, but I have a feeling Viona's will help to draw more commerce to the area. There's lots of new construction in Old Overland Park - much of it is mixed use.
So let's get to the meat of this review. We went for lunch, and it was a late lunch - so we got right in with no wait. The service was amazing! I loved how the owner came by to talk with us and check in on our satisfaction.
On to the food. It's a full Italian menu, featuring FRESH, hand-made pasta, homemade rolls with olive oil dipping sauce, delicious salads, pizzas, and much more!
I had the Pasta Sampler for lunch (under $9.00). Juli had the Chicken Picata. No kidding, the fresh pasta is SO GOOD. The Lasagna was honestly the best I've had. The Ravioli with meat filling was sublime. And the Manicotti rounded out my plate - and they all shared the same red sauce. It was phenomenal!
I can imagine having a romantic dinner here with some wine. It's a convenient location, and really is the perfect accompaniment to all of the new businesses and apartments coming to the area.
So, to the owners of Viona's - Congratulations!! I'm sure we will be regulars. Looking forward to dinner...
