I tried Culver's once before in Tampa but that time I got a salad. It was ok. I was excited to try the new one in Oviedo. It wasn't very busy. I asked a few questions to the cashier and she seemed very confused. I thought she might be on her first day but later I was told that she's a manager. Oh my! I asked about the pot roast sandwich. She dutifully replied "It's our 3rd most popular sandwich" but something about her facial expression should have given pause. She asked if I want steak sauce, BBQ sauce, or horseradish. I replied steak sauce and she rang up both steak sauce AND BBQ sauce. No biggie. I asked several questions about the cheese curds and she couldn't answer a single one. She kept getting more confused so I gave up and ordered them. The photos make them look like they are filled with a Mac n cheese consistency sauce so I was confused if it was a firm fried cheese or a drippy cheese sauce inside. I learned that it's basically fried mozzarella bites. For $4, you'd be better off getting two orders of $2 mozzarella sticks from Sonic. The cheese curds were "ok" and sadly, the best thing I ate. Or rather, didn't eat... As I only took 2 bites of my pot roast sandwich before I decided I couldn't punish myself anymore. It was dry and flavorless. It tasted like cafeteria meat. No one would accuse me of being a good cook, but even I can pull off a decent pot roast. The green beans were actually a side of diced onions with some green beans and unlike their description, are NOT seasoned.
Even their sweet tea was odd. It tasted weak, bitter, and not sweet. At restaurants, I usually mix half sweet/half unsweet but at Culver's, I had to add sugar to their sweet tea. I can't remember what my daughter got (some sort of chicken burger), but her comment was "this is like a bad version of Dairy Queen."
I will say that the staff in the dining room was fantastic and very attentive. The food came out quickly and was hot. For those reasons, I still gave 2 stars. It saddens me to write a bad review. If you look at my history, it's rare for me to flame an establishment but I just want to save anyone else from wasting their money.
I do hope these are just bugs they are working out but they've got a...
Read moreI was so looking forward to dining here. There plenty of places that serve burgers but few can make the claim of producing a really good satisfying burger. Red Robin fits the latter category but there are none within a 30 minute drive from me. I had read a review that placed Culver's right underneath Red Robin for hamburger quality so I was excited to try it out.
It turns out the burgers are no better than the skinny Steak and Shake patty burgers you can get in a meal for under $5 with table service.
My burger was identical to the Steak and Shake burger minus the veggies. Fries were average if not slightly underdone. This meal, including a medium soda and a small custard cost over $13.
I would admit that I had to raise my star rating from 2 to 3 because the custard was very tasty. I might go through the drive-through just to get one of those again. It was a peanut butter custard base with cookie dough. I usually don't turn down a Steak and Shake shake, but I will admit that Culver's was much better. It was a similar thickness to a dairy Queen Blizzard except they had a peanut butter base instead of vanilla and it was much creamier.
My friend got the same meal I had except with a chocolate shake. She also got sticker shock on the price although she did enjoy the shake.
As far as the rest of meal goes, I would rather just dine at Steak and Shake which is a mile down the road, and pay significantly less for equal or better quality.
IHOP's burgers, SONNY'S BBQ burgers and even Steak and Shake's Prime burgers are all better quality for the money. Sonny's, also just down the street, has the best local fries...
Read moreMy husband and I went to the Culver’s in Oviedo for lunch and after we ate we decided to order dessert, I ordered a chocolate ice cream cone and my husband ordered a chocolate shake. The ice cream cone was yummy but my husband’s chocolate shake tasted like vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. I went back and asked how did they make their chocolate shakes, the girl at the counter said that they made their chocolate shakes with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup and that you have to ask for chocolate ice cream. That makes no sense when they have chocolate ice cream. Of coarse it was explained to me with an attitude. Anyway the part that bothered me the most was the fact that I was holding the cup talking to girl at the counter and she snatched the cup out of my hand turned her back and went to prepare another shake for me but as she did that I can hear her tell the other employee what my problem was and that employee comes out to explain to me the shake issue and I explained to her that the other girl already explained to me the shake preparation. I walked out pretty ticked off and I should have talked to a manger but because they were busy and didn’t want to make a big deal about it. The more I thought about I decided to write this review because we go to curlers often and I never experienced such attitude before. I wish I would have gotten her name. The one thing I remember is her maroon lipstick...
