Initially, we patronized Carnitas El Rey at it's first location on 5th Street near Oxnard Blvd. Very small eating area insufficient PARKING, but Gr8 Staff and even Gr8er Carnitas‼️ You can't order anything else because Carnitas is their expertise- BAR NONE‼️Along with the Carnitas you can get the normal fare of rice, beans, green/red salsa picante, grilled Jalapenos, Pico de Gallo and of coarse, their homemade tortillas. When you order, you have as be two choices (Carnitas). You can ask for pura Carnitas, or Puros cueritos, or 50% carnitas & 50% cueritos. EITHER way, you can't lose. The Carnitas are soooo tender, juicy and flavorful, as are the cueritos. The beans, rice and tortillas are very satisfying. About 4 years ago, a second Carnitas El Rey was opened at Saviers Road, just a spits' throw, from 5th Street. ATTENTION: I got word the Restaurant's name was recently changed. I verified it. The Carnitas El Rey on Saviers Road, is now "Mi Rancho". And the Carnitas El Rey, on 5th Street, remains El Rey‼️ same OWNERS but they changed the Saviets Road restaurant name to Mi Rancho. Don't get...
Read moreI visited this place after eating two tacos my mom brought me from here. When I visited this place there was a what i would call a long line. Although line was long they do a great job at getting you out of there as soon as possible. It is decorated in a way that would remind me of going to a traditional Mexican restaurant. I didn’t actually eat there but bought for take out.
This place specializes in carnitas and I bought carnitas tacos. Please keep in mind that two tacos will fill you up as they are very generous with the portions of carnitas and the tortilla is fairly big. The carnitas are so delicious and not greasy and this is coming from a guy that normally never orders carnitas. I was greatly impressed that both times I have been there although fairly long lines, I was out in no time. Good going Carnitas El Rey.

Read moreGreat value, great food, great service! This is very much just pulled pork on 8" tortillas. You have a choice between a combo, which includes rice and beans (pintos) or simply soft tacos, which is plenty, believe me. There is a small "salsa bar" of sorts with salsa verde, pico and whole pickled jalapenos. They have beer, tamarindo and cokes to drink. You get charged for each drink since there is no drink fountain. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. I really like the art on the walls and such. Nice fun atmosphere for a quick meal. This is a fast food restaurant, so keep that in mind. It's about $10/person. It was delicious! We'll definitely put this into our monthly rotation of...
