If you have the general concept of what a "family bar" "used to be" in the fifties in New York and Chicago then this is the closest analog that you will find in the Buckle of the Bible Belt. The old family bar people didn't get drunk. They didn't have a car. They lived a couple of blocks away and walked. They had food local to "the borough " italian, Greek Irish etc. Games on the tables, darts etc. Kids running around, NO BOOZE FOR THEM, it was where families met after the man got off work after 8 hours before a flaming hot steel fpge to make Detroit Iron cars. No kids here. But as close as you can get. The barkeep IMMEDIATELY welcomes you and asks your name, second visit she calls you BY NAME when you walk in. A limited menu of monster size hamburgers l, toasted cheese sandwich etc. Excellent drinks and inexpensive, music Thursday Saturday night sometimes Friday. In a word. COMFORTABLE. BUT OFTEN TIMES WHEN the local workers . These are real " labourers" get off work it can be jammed because of the great food, a lot of guys take stuff home to wife and kids..
women who work locally come in also. Usually in groups , but often singly. If a guy acts like a human being she can be approachable and maybe you meet same day next week. Get crosswise and the barkeeps, all women , Will SLAP YOU UP SIDE THE HEAD AND THROW YOU PHYSICALLY OUT. They make a LOT of money being a comfortable "family...
Read moreTheresa the bartender was awesome & gave me great service. The food was not bad for the price. I got caught having ordered my beer at the bar before I noticed there were people behind me sitting at the sidebars smoking or otherwise I would gave left.. so,, I sucked it up for 40 minutes. This place is a Smoker's Haven. Ash trays everywhere, smoky smelling place, Breathing in second hand smoke, Unhealthy atmosphere. If you like smoke and having your hair & clothes smell like smoke when you leave, then this is the place for you. I would not have walked into this place if I had known it was Pro-Smoking. I suggested to Theresa that the owner consider having non-smoking nights, that way you cater to both Smokers & non-smokers. I would come back if the owner did that. It is worth a try, but I doubt it would happen because although It is a nice little bar, you are already catering to Smokers and once you offer smoking you can never go back because you would tick off the Smokers. I have news for this owner--more people DON'T smoke than do. So, this owner prides his business on MOSTLY Smokers. He is probably a smoker himself. Too...
Read moreBeen here a few times. Always had a good experience until I was "served" by whoever is working today 7-16 @ 3pm. Ordered. A bottle of Busch light bartender ran back and forth between three different coolers and then put one down in front of me Cracked it and said here you go but it's warm do you want a cold glass. Said no just a cold beer would be fine how about a blah blah blah. Brought that over, popped a top I slid over a 10 goes to register then says well imma charge you for both of those bc I opened them 🤷🏼♂️ .... 😂 What a lousy way to maneuver yourself or business. Will never be back and I promise to include this event Everytime I tell of my travels to this area. Consider the $10 you robbed me of, the untouched warm beer, hardly cool beer with one sip missing and my empty seated spinning bar stool...
