Alley 64 - Palatine — Restaurant in Palatine Township

I live walking distance from this place, I’ve always wanted to check it out since I heard good things about it. Well.. maybe it was my experience but it was not good at all. It was Friday night, 10:40pm, trying to celebrate my bday with my best friend and we get there, sit by the bar, bar tender approached us and first thing she said was, “last call in 10 minutes” I asked, what time did they close, she said 12am and i asked, well your open till 12 but the last call is in 10 minutes? She said yeah we’re open until 12 but last call is in 10 minutes. I was confused because we weren’t trying to order food, just drinks and how could you be open for another hour and 20 minutes and have no service? The lady was very rude and it seem like she just didn’t want to take care of us and was so unhappy to be there, so we got up and left. I understand the kitchen being closed or even having the last call 30 minutes before closing, but an hour and 20 minutes? The only reason why we stopped there was because their hours are listed online and we thought we could’ve been there for an hour, get some drinks and call it a night, instead we wasted our time and had to drive elsewhere....

We have gone there several times in the past, but unfortunately are considering looking for another place to go for the fish fry. Our group of eight were not hapoyThere were a few very important reasons.

When we arrived the backroom was booked and we did not have access to regular seating. Being handicap and using a walker at this time, it was extremely difficult to maneuver around. The floors were uneven.

Since the backroom was reserved we had to go out to the main bar area. There were no regular chairs snd tables - only bar height. I could not get on to the bar stools. I thought I could lean on the stool but it v was to high. At that time we found either the stools were bent or the floor was uneven. I wound up standing for the 3 hours we were there which was very uncomfortable.

The staff was not available when we needed them. (No where to be found.)

To bad because we use to enjoy...

Tried to convince my 23 year old son not to order the pizza that was recently added to the menu (I rarely find that a place that does not specialize in an item does a good job preparing it) and of course he was disappointed and ended up eating only a few slices. The cheese on the cheesy fries was horrible and I would not be surprised if it came out of a can. The same gross cheese was used on the Philly steak grinder I ordered. It really ruined what could have been a solid sandwich as the meat they used was actually tender and tasty. Solid list of beers on the menu but 2 out of 3 that I wanted were not available that night. Friendly staff. Bottom line- good ambiance, solid beer list and meh food. I am not going to be in a rush to go back for dinner but...
