The overall experience was honestly pretty terrible. There was only a handful of patrons when we came in, yet we had to seat ourselves while staff behind the counter could be heard across the establishment going "where are the girls? we have people waiting." They had to go find our server and she was extremely inattentive the entire time we were there. Not once did she ask about refills, and others often had to go and retrieve her multiple times to tend to the few customers she had. EXTREMELY rude and condescending in her tone when she spoke to us.
They were out of brisket, so we ordered relatively simple items and it still took over 30 minutes to get a sandwich and frog legs. I was brought tartar sauce when I asked for ranch. My sandwich was cold and soggy by the time we got our food, the shrimp was rubbery, and my partner was far from thrilled with his food, too. Nothing was good, much less worth paying for. The manager ended up comping our bill because of how poor everything was.
Never coming back. Really don't recommend this place to...
Read moreFound this place while in Palestine and it wasn’t quite what we were expecting. I myself got the never ending catfish but didn’t need a refill because they initially give you plenty! I’ll say the catfish was VERY tasty!!
I don’t know if it’s because we are from Houston, but for us a seafood boil is way different than what was offered here. The crab and the shrimp were just literally boiled. Didn’t taste like anything or have any sauce. It’s not that they were bad they were plain and we’re not used to that. Also, we really wanted crawfish but our server, who was very nice by the way, said it was out of season so they didn’t have any. Again, we’re from Houston so it was strange to hear they’re out of season when I know here in Houston places are still serving them.
Overall, I will not be coming back because I will not be in Palestine again. Would I recommend it? Yes if you’re gonna have the catfish or any other dish, I don’t...
Read moreA real gem - casual, comfortable, friendly with delicious food. We stopped by after a day on the train looking for something local yet not too pricy. Hambone’s greeted us warmly, brought out soda and tea quickly. The server recommended tacos, steak, and etoufee. We ordered the catfish basket and blackened fish with etoufee. Fabulous. The catfish was fresh, and flaky just like it’s supposed to be, with a delicious fried coating. The etoufee over blackened fish was excellent - blackened fish was spicy and cooked perfectly, topped by a freshly made creamy etoufee with crawfish tails, shrimp, and small pieces of sausage. We finished off our dinner with a piece of chocolate pound cake. We sat indoors, but there was an active crowd outside in the back enjoying the beautiful fall weather. This restaurant is worth a repeat visit. You won’t be...
