Poor service. Bad taste. I used to go here to have a decent korean fried chicken — both dinning in and to-go order. But not anymore since today’s experience with a neglected waiter and their recipes changes.
I was super craving for fried chicken today so I drove up to palisades Park from jersey city. Can feel how much I wanted, right? I called them to order prior time and ordered my favorite — boneless crispy chicken with their secret sauce. The waiter who was getting my order asked me, “do you want chicken breast? Or thighs?”. I’ve never asked that question before so I asked him for half and half. And he said no. I couldn’t order half and half. So I told him, “I’ve never been asked that question”. I thought I can get some clue/answers whether they changed the recipes or what it used to be. But he rudely answered back, “breast? Or thighs?”. I thought that he is going to yell at me if I don’t make a decision right away since he was almost yelling at me... if he did that on purpose of getting order faster, then he succeeded. I told him, “breast”. Then he said it will take 20mins.
After 10mins, I got to the restaurant. Luckily there was not much of traffic. So I walked in and there was the waiter who got my order. He asked me for my phone number that I put when he got my order through the phone. So I go “###-##...”. He overtalked me and said “last 4digits” with an ignorant look. How can I know if you only need 4digits or full??? Anyway I gave him the 4digits. Then he said, “it has been only 10mins”. Should I feel guilty about being early? Well... he told me to pay first then he will get my foods to my car if I wait in the car. So I paid and asked him one more time, “I’ve never been asked to choose between breast and thighs. Were there any changes?”. Then he answered that they changed it and it has been a few months. Do they expect all the customers know the changes? Anyway, so I asked him, “then, which one it used be?”. He said, “thighs”. If I knew it when I ordered, I would definitely order the thighs which I know taste good.
The chicken breast didn’t taste good... the meat was dry and very little amount — mostly it was breaded.
I understand that it can get very stressful during this time with COVID. I fully want to support the small businesses including Pelicana Chicken. But to the owner, if you care about your customers and business, it will be worth it to train the waiters or waitresses to be more customer friendly and share their knowledge about the foods with...
Read moreAfter craving some Korean fried chicken, I decided to order from Pelicana Chicken. I've been there before the pandemic for dine-in and I remembered that the food was delicious so I wanted to try it again.
I ordered 24 pieces of wings. One thing to note here is that they charge you $2 to get sauce on the wings or on the side. Additionally, if you want to pick 2 sauces, it is another $2 even though you are only getting half the amount of each sauce. I haven't been to a Korean fried chicken place that charged for the sauces on the chicken (especially charging $4 if you want half and half), but I can let it slide a bit here because the chicken itself is super juicy and extra crispy. Even after a 10 minute drive home, the chicken remained fresh and didn't get soggy.
Their sweet-and-spicy sauce was my favorite and was delicious. I would highly recommend that sauce if you don't know which one to pick from out of all of their options.
The wings themselves all have a ton of meat on them and are very filling. I would even say 6-8 pieces is enough to be satisfied for a meal. Whereas at other places, such as Bonchon, after eating 12 pieces, I was still hungry.
The price is a bit on the higher end, as they brand themselves as premium chicken. I can agree that out of the many places I've tried, Pelicana's chicken is top quality. Therefore, it would be a nice meal for a treat once in a while, but not something I'd go to all the time.
There is very limited street parking available right in front of the restaurant and along the side street that surrounds it. If you go during a busy time, it might be hard to find parking.
Overall, I was very satisfied with how fast they made the order and the overall quality and portions. You really do get what...

The best SERVICE I have ever gotten from Pelicanas and I've been to almost every branch in the US.
I forgot our servers name but he was just amazing, very talented young man, excellent!
Very clean, especially the rest room.
Quality of the chicken Taste the way its supposed to (I only get Boneless)
FOOD: 🐥
I always recommend people to get the Boneless whole chicken with the honey garlic and pelicana sauce level 2 spice.
What I ordered was two halfs whole chickens one spicy and the other regular and I also recommend getting the sauce on the side which is the best thing to do this way if you need to take it to go, it doesn't get to soggy.
French Fries truffle sauce, yum yum yum. Their super crispy in a good way. 🥔
Calamari, believe it or not but the best I've ever had as well. 🦑
Reheating option at home: 🏡
Preheat the oven 375 degree preheat, then throw it on top of foil paper or wax paper for about 10 minutes and just enjoy the left overs.
Also the waiter usually throws in some extra sauce on the side since there's no sauce on the chicken 🐔 😈
DRINKS:
This is what I recommend, is getting their "Green Grape 🍇 Soju brand name Jinju" also its very light.
I would do "Beer" 🍻 if your not going to get appetizers and just eat chicken then do it because they have a great beer selection.
I...
