I recently visited Xiao Chuan Dian Mini Lamb Skewers House in Northern NJ with my college classmates. We indulged in an array of delicious dishes, including the signature lamb skewers and various other grilled skewers. Additionally, we tried the spicy hot pot and some stir-fried dishes. Overall, our dining experience was good, although there were a few noteworthy points to consider.
One aspect worth mentioning is that there were two other groups celebrating birthday parties during our visit. The restaurant provides small private booths, which are suitable for groups of up to six people. However, if your group consists of seven people or more, it might feel a bit cramped in a single booth. It is advisable to make reservations or plan accordingly to ensure everyone's comfort.
We did order quite a variety of dishes, which resulted in a limited amount of table space. As a result, some of the dishes took a bit longer to arrive, but it was not an overly lengthy wait. The staff provided excellent service throughout our meal, and their friendly attitude added to the overall positive experience.
It's important to note that the restaurant does not have its own parking lot and relies on street parking. However, despite the parking situation, the surrounding area seems to only have this particular restaurant thriving, indicating its popularity among diners.
Now, onto the highlight of our dining experience—the lamb skewers and grilled skewers. The lamb skewers were the star of the show, featuring tender and succulent pieces of meat seasoned to perfection. Each bite was bursting with flavor, making them a must-try. The other grilled skewers were also enjoyable, with a variety of options to suit different tastes and preferences.
Aside from the skewers, we also tried the spicy hot pot and some stir-fried dishes. The hot pot offered a satisfying level of spiciness, and the combination of ingredients provided a rich and flavorful broth. The stir-fried dishes were well-prepared, with fresh and vibrant vegetables enhancing the overall taste.
In conclusion, Xiao Chuan Dian Mini Lamb Skewers House in Northern NJ offers a satisfying dining experience. While the limited space in the private booths may be a consideration for larger groups, the delicious lamb skewers and grilled skewers make it a worthwhile visit. The attentive service and positive dining atmosphere contribute to the overall enjoyment. I recommend trying the lamb skewers and grilled skewers for a flavorful and...
Read moreThe food in there is pretty good, but the service/seating arrangement from this place is making me turn away. The first time we went there because my friends were hyping this place up. We went as a group of 4 got there between 6:40-7:00pm ish. There were like 2 people waiting at the entrance and are still empty tables in there. we advice the waiter we have 4. He asked us if we have reservations, we said nope. So we asked if they can take our name down or something. He looked at us and shaking his head at the same time, unwillingly put down our names and said now you guys are the first group. (So confuse) it didn’t take long for us to get in. So was fine. today we are in the area again and we learn our lesson from last time, so we called ahead to see if we can make a reservation for group of 4 @ 8:30pm. We were advised on phone that they don’t take reservations after 7:30pm is walk-in only. (🫣) we respect that. We show up on 8:18pm and let the front desk person know we have 4. (Expecting we will wait for a bit). The person at the front told us for people of 4 will be one hour wait time. I said ok, can we put our name down first?? Then the person told us they don’t take any names, you just need to wait here to be called. Ok that really confuse and irritate me. First, the entrance is small, barely can stand for more than 6 ppl and there are more people coming in at the same time. Second, if you don’t take our names down how do you know who comes in first? Third, why the waiting system is so unorganized and lack of transparency? I don’t think I want to...
Read moreQuite disappointed since I had high expectations. The skewers were good, and probably the reason for me to come back. I especially liked the wagyu beef and lamb skewers. The sliced beef wrapped enoki mushroom was too salty and the squid had that strange sweet taste I didn’t like. So I would avoid them next time and try things like spicy chicken wings.
The dishes were below average. The only good one was spicy clams. The overly sweet Guobaorou (sweet and sour pork slices) had soooo little meat that you feel like you are eating fried dough instead of eating meat. It had literally no taste of meat if you eat it blindly. The dry pot mushroom didn’t come with dry pot, and had little mushroom but full of thin sliced pork belly. It was very salty and oily. The cucumber got too much sugar. Fried fish was ok but you won’t want to order it if Hou cannot handle small fish bones.
Service was average. The food arrived rather quickly, but we only got water half an hour after we asked for it. The dinner area was well-setup since you sit in a semi-closed room that has little interaction with your neighbors.
Before tips it’s 140+ for 4 people. For the price you would expect better quality of food...
