Honestly, Iâm really disappointed with this place. As someone who isnât Portuguese and went in hoping to get introduced to the culture through an authentic bakery experienceâgreat coffee, pastries, cakesâI left feeling unwelcome and let down.
It does seem authentic in the sense that plenty of Portuguese people were enjoying themselves there, but as an outsider, the atmosphere came across as cold and uninviting. The staff seemed disinterested, rushed us through our questions about the baked goods, and generally made us feel like an afterthought rather than valued customers.
As for the food and drinks, they were a mixed bag. The pastries were decentâwarmish, with good flavorâbut nothing outstanding. The black coffee was extremely strong, which might be a plus if thatâs your thing. But the iced coffee was honestly one of the worst Iâve ever had: watery, bland, and clearly thrown together without care. It was so diluted you could barely even taste the coffee. If they canât make it properly, why even have it on the menu?
Overall, the only truly âauthenticâ thing about the place seemed to be the brusque, stereotypical European-style service attitude. I went in genuinely hoping to learn about and enjoy Portuguese bakery culture, but I left feeling like I wasnât welcome or worth their time. It was just disappointing, and I canât recommend it.
Update (response to business ownerâs reply):
Iâm both surprised and appalled by the ownerâs unprofessional and insulting response. Instead of addressing my specific, constructive feedback about poor service and product quality, they chose to accuse me of being âmore manlyâ and shame me for sharing my âless than stellarâ experience. Thatâs not how any business, especially a small one, should respond to criticism.
I also find it disrespectful that they replied in Portuguese here on Google despite my clearly stating Iâm an English-speaking American. When they are in a multicultural society like the United States they should be respectful of the different people that arenât like them, just like I and so many Americans try to be with each other. I hoped to speak up honestly about the customer service and food to help them improve. A little acknowledgment and respect goes a long way for any business that wants to thrive in my humble opinion.
During my visit, while they did speak English to take our order, they werenât as friendly or welcoming as Iâd expected. They seemed standoffish and offered no real help, which made me feel like an outsider. I donât know what they mean by friendly at all because I didnât see them going out of their way to help me. The customer should be the priority always. No matter if they are making the most senseless requests or remarks, you address them with respect. And I take no joy in saying that about anyoneâs small business, I genuinely try to encourage good behavior and stay positive. Thatâs why it hurt to leave a negative review in the first place.
But in the end, as someone who has worked in small business myself, I know that insulting paying customers for honest criticism is not sustainable. Iâm leaving this update so others know what to expect, not just rushed service and disappointing iced coffee, but also a defensive attitude toward anyone offering honest feedback. If you want your business to thrive, you need to understand good customer service, accept feedback, and make a quality impact so customers want to return. I wish you the best and hope youâll consider...
Read moreI have been here three times and my family multiple as well. I will not go back after my last experience. We all decided to go for cappuccinos. Upon entering the shop, it did not smell very well, which is usually my first hint to walk out of businesses, thatâs especially odd for a bakery. Our two friends ordered their cappuccinos in front of us, Paid about 5$ and change each for a small cup. Not something we normally would spend our money on but decided we wanted to try the cappuccino as well. So we ordered the same thing, 1 cappuccino for both my husband and I to share together, for the same price, 5 dollars and change. The cup that we received over our friends was 3x the size, for the same price. they looked at their coffees after we received ours and looked disappointed. Not really how we wanted our friends to feel over us! If it was just a nice gesture, thatâs great, but business here is clearly not fair to all customers and you can see that in other 1 star reviews on here. The coffee was mediocre. They do not post their prices so you never know what youâre going to pay. Your service will depend on however the barista is feeling. Also, The hot plate on the top of the counter says itâs hot but i checked and it was actually the opposite. That food thatâs in that case should not be left out at those temperatures, for who knows how long. Some bakery items did not seem as they were baked...
