We live locally and decided to try this little place on El Paseo by Revivals. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in with enthusiasim. The atmosphere was relaxed, the space was clean and cute. The menu itself had a point of view and is easy to read/order from. We started off with the corn dip, it was creamy with little sweet pops of corn. The chips are made in house and added a needed saltiness and crunch to the appetizer. For our entrees we got a Spicy Chicken sandwich and the Pambazo. The chicken sandwhich was drip juicy and paired well with their jalapeno aioli and textbook onion rings. Sadly, the bread for the Pambazo was a bit hard and difficult to eat even after pouring the red sauce over it and waiting a bit, though it looked beautiful. However, what was inside was amazing and i ended up eating all of what was inside. The slaw tasted fresh, but a bit salty, it did est well with the pambano however. After comment on the bread, they took the critic well and recovered by offering a free desert, i could not refuse and am glad i didnt. I chose their house made tres leche cake to go. It was well soaked and not too sweet. The cream was cloudlike, but firm and held well with the milk cake. I will be comming back for more. 5/5 for me, the reception of the critic and the recovery was more than enough to make up for the small bread mishap. Thank you for a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you're thinking, like I did, that this is a Mexican restaurant, you'd be wrong. It's really a diner with a strong Mexican influence. If you're looking for the traditional Mexican restaurant experience, don't come here.
That said, the food is pretty good. We tried the chips, salsa, and guacamole (not complimentary hereā$10) and the blackened fish tacos. The chips are house-made and served warm. The guacamole was fine but not exceptional. The salsa, however, was disappointing. It had an unappealing brown color and bland flavor. I understand they're going for a roasted pepper salsa, but the burnt skins should be removed before blendingāit makes a noticeable difference.
The fish tacos were actually quite good, featuring a tasty house-made aioli and fresh slaw. At three tacos for $19, they're not cheap, but the quality is there.
It's a table-service restaurant with a couple of outdoor tables. The atmosphere is very much strip-mall casual, so if you're looking for ambiance, it isn't here. The other dishes coming out of the kitchen looked promising, though I can't vouch for them personally.
If you're looking for a solid breakfast or Mexican-influenced diner food, this might be the place. Adjust your expectations...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI googled restaurants in Palm desert and this place came up. Rated 4.9 out of 5, so I checked the menu online and it looked interesting.
So glad we decided to try it. I ordered the chicken milanesa torta, and my Wife ordered the Teriyaki burger. The chicken milanesa torta was excellent, jalapeƱo aioli and lettuce, tomato, onion and avocado on a fresh and lightly toasted, fresh torta. Accompanied by some of the most flavorful fries that I have ever eaten.
The burger tasted more like a steak than ground beef. Finely ground and prepared on an open grill, giving it that char broiled flavor. Grilled onions and pineapple, lettuce on a fresh, toasted bun.
We ordered chips and salsa, with a side of refried beans. The chips, house made, were incredible! The roasted tomato salsa sublime, not too hot or spicy. The refried beans were creamy and fresh.
The restaurant itself doesn't appear that different from any strip mall restaurant, but the food, the presentation, the service make the trip to Restaurante Los Primos...
