We were not impressed with this place, especially compared to the other teppan restaurants around the Coachella Valley and elsewhere. If you order sushi, most places will bring soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger or at least, offer them. Not here - just bring the dish and leave. The Crunchy Roll itself was OK but not much flavor. Actually, I've gotten better sushi from Ralph's! The miso soup was next. It was very diluted and clear, and had almost no flavor. The raw mushroom did not help anything. The salad was plain mixed greens with a little dressing. Nothing special. Standard bag of greens you can get at the grocery store, which I have done many times. On to the main course... The fried rice, which was an extra $3, was not as good as Panda's version. For a premium price, I would have expected a premium dish. Very bland with a LOT of garlic. I was satisfied with the steamed rice, which is pretty hard to mess up. The vegetable dish was good but very basic - zucchini, red bell peppers, onions, and a very small amount of mushrooms. Nothing special. I ordered the NY strip while everyone else ordered the Ribeye. The strip was a good portion but had a big corner of just fat. The Ribeye Steaks were larger but much thinner. My friend asked for medium but I didn't hear what everyone else asked for. An aside: I was seated at the edge of the table, directly next to where the chef's cart was parked. The boom box, playing some current rap music was too loud for me to hear much conversation at the table, including the chef. Fortunately, my friend was sitting on my other side and answered the chef's questions if he saw that I was not following. Unfortunately, the chef's Covid mask, which is totally understandable in today's health recommendations, hides hints of what he's talking about. Back to the meal... I ordered the "Colossal Shrimp" while everyone else ordered the cheaper shrimp. The chef slapped 6 of large, tail-on shrimp on the grill and a bowl of the other shrimp. When I was served, I received only 4 shrimp and some of the other ones. I guess the birthday boy got a perk! Suck-up obviously does wonders here! My steak was the first one to be prepared. He grilled it to exactly medium rare as I ordered. The meat was juicy and tender. As for the rest, the chef combined all them together. Although my friend asked for medium, by the time his portion was served, it was well done. The result was a dry, tough bites of meat. Furthermore, the chef's portioning of the meat between the remaining 5 diners was, uneven. My friend got a smaller portion and a lot of the unedible pieces. (If you look at one of the pictures I posted, you'll see a pile of gristle pushed over to the side. The remaining meat was too tough and dry to eat. We finished our meal and wiped the sweat from our faces and headed home. (Granted, it was 112° outside and the grills put out a lot of heat. But it would have been nice if their air conditioning could provide a cooler environment.) BOTTOM LINE: If you are going to pay a premium price for a restaurant meal, it would be a good idea for the restaurant to provide a premium experience that would enhance the probability that the diner will want to return soon. Unfortunately, this place is not that place. For me, I'll probably never go back. Especially when I go to other teppan places close by that are so much better. I'm sorry, I don't post very many bad reviews, but my experience at this place didn't deserve a...
Read moreWe had a reservation at 12:30 for 11 people for Sunday April 19th. We were the only ones in the building and they crammed us around 1 cooking table meant for 6 to 8 people which was uncomfortable. They should have used the 2 that were there for our meals. If they had, this review would probably be better as less mistakes would have been made and maybe we would have gotten the correct portions we were charged for. We had a new waitress in training and she was better than our actual waitress, by a long shot. But we had a new chef too and he did 1 whole trick of spinning the spatula, twice :( And only as he was getting ready to make the rice. Whoopitydo. His name was Angel and he should no longer hold a job at Shogun for how he cooked seafood for 30 min and for also how he did not cook everyone's food. He put down 7 servings of food and then stretched it to fit the 11 peoples orders. Not joking. The waitress's had made mistakes when taking orders from our group so our chef Angel went around the table and re-checked the orders but only asked the 1st 7 members of the group, and then told the last 4 members that he would cook thier food next when done, but then he didn't. Instead Angel stretched the food he put down for all 11. He should have had a trained chef with him and he should not have also been given a large party to start with. Everything! I say again, Everything- was ruined and cooked to death. The rice was the only thing that was any good and IT was ready and served over a half hour before anyone got to eat. Angel should just stick with rice from now on. At $500 for our group to eat, we only got $300 worth of disgusting overcooked food cooked by a inept and not ready chef and served by incompetant wait staff, even the manager was to bothered to remove his airpod Qtips hanging from his ears. This business reeks of death as if it will be closing soon, and I hope it does. They shouldnt even get 1 star. My family and I will never be back. We got absolutely no show, no Shogun show which is why you go so no tricks or volcanoes- whatever those are, a very unprofessional staff, dirty disgusting dishes, and food that should have been served a F by the Health Department. Most of you should be fired. I hope you close soon! 0...
Read moreWe arrived around lunchtime on a Saturday. We didn't have a reservation, but they weren't busy so they were able to seat this at a table right away. However, when we arrived we were told that there would be no sushi because they ran out. This was when we should have left. When the server got to our table she reminded us that there was no sushi. We ordered two of the samurai cocktails which appeared to be a rum punch type of drink. When the server delivered the drinks she said the manager made them, and made extra so we each had a tall glass and a short glass of this drink. For some reason it was blended with ice. The ice chunks were big enough to clog the straw over and over and over again. Perhaps they should have said they have no drinks as well. There were elements of good flavor to the drink but this was overshadowed by the poorly blended ice and citrus foam mixed in with the ice. I ordered the sesame chicken. And, it was exactly what the menu said; chicken, sesame seeds, soy sauce. Mostly it was equal parts sesame seeds and chicken. I paid three extra dollars for the chicken fried rice. They probably should have said they were out of chicken fried rice. It was overly salty and the only evidence of chicken was the white fat that comes out of the chicken when it's cooking mixed in with the rice. It was disgusting. If my picture wasn't blurry, you would be able to see what I was talking about. Much later the server asked if everything was okay because I barely ate anything on my plate. I didn't even want to talk about it at that point and told her this. She replied, I didn't cook it so it wouldn't hurt her feelings if I didn't like it. When it came time to pay, our guest that was eating with us was not charged for his alcoholic drink and not charged fully for his appetizer. Lucky him. I will never go to this...
