I am not one to write negative reviews, and have been going back and forth about writing this review, but after more than a month of thinking about our horrible experience at this restaurant, I think writing a review is necessary so that the owners can address the issues. While in The Desert, I always like to try new restaurants, so when Low Desert opened in the Smoke Tree Plaza, I jumped at the chance to try it. We ordered our food: one bowl of posole, one bowl of tortilla soup, chips & salsa and the Mexican corn. Getting a glass of water was almost impossible. After four requests, I finally went inside to the bar and asked for water. Silverware? Non-existent. In fact, when our soups were served, we had no spoons with which to eat our soup. After four or five attempts to get spoons, with which to eat our soup, I resorted to using my fork to taste the soup, which was SO SALTY that I had to return it. Speaking of taste (and texture)....the salsa had no flavor and was watered down. I was hoping to have a chunky and flavorful experience. This was far from it. The chips were store-bought and none were "whole." It looked like we got the "bottom of the bag." The Mexican street corn? We NEVER got it, but of course were charged. When I questioned the bill, the waiter, who never stopped-by our table after serving the chips & "salsa," had the nerve to doubt me when I said we never got the corn. I was so frustrated with the bill, the lack of service and the food that I followed the waiter inside to tell him how disappointed we were and to have him remove the chips & salsa and corn (which we never received) from the bill. The waiter turned to me and said, "you had an attitude when you walked in the door and obviously don't know what 'real' Mexican food tastes like." If this is how the restaurant thinks its patronage should be treated, shame on them. Need I say more? I told the waiter that I would not be paying for the meal, which resulted in his spewing out a slew of insults. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE &...
Read moreI love supporting local and small businesses and had been looking forward to trying out this place due to all the great reviews. This place did not live up to the hype.
I met my friend there on a Tuesday night and we were greeted promptly and seated ourselves. There were 6-7 other parties present when we arrived.
I didn’t preview their menu ahead of time and was looking at their drink selection hoping for horchata or agua frescas. No such luck. The only non-alcoholic Mexican drink offering was Jarritos. I asked if they had jamaica but they had no idea what I was talking about and thought I was trying to order a margarita.
We ordered chips and salsa… which looked and tasted like puréed tomato with low grade spice.
We thought the grilled romaine salad sounded interesting and the server was selling us on the Asada Taco.
They were kind enough to split the salad for us and serve it in two dishes. And our tacos arrived shortly. While the presentation was nice, in short, everything was bland.
The salad: it comes with a raspberry dressing which can be very sweet. I was hoping it wouldn’t be too sweet but it wasn’t sweet at all. In fact, it barely had any flavor and the “grilled” sweet potato had no signs of it being grilled.
The taco: asada is usually a marinated grilled steak. There was no flavor to the steak at all. None. All I tasted was the corn tortilla and my friend confirmed that’s all he tasted as well.
It was close to closing time and one server came and dropped off the check. It would be nice if they came around and asked for any dessert offerings before the kitchen closes.
It also is a little confusing to have more than one person tending to the table.
What’s more confusing is all these 5 star reviews after all that I experienced because I am not inspired to return or recommend this place which is a shame. I like supporting and sharing our local gems but this place...

This restaurant is a masterpiece of modern Mexican cuisine! From the moment we walked in, the vibrant decor and warm atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience.
The menu is innovative yet true to its roots, offering a perfect balance of traditional flavors and creative twists. We started with the tableside guacamole, the freshest and most flavorful we’ve ever had. The entrees were equally spectacular – the shrimp tacos and the vegan enchiladas were rich, complex, and perfectly executed.
Don’t skip the cocktails! Their signature margaritas are a work of art, expertly balanced, and delicious, especially The 111-Paloma.
The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, making the evening feel special. Paul paid exceptional attention to detail, particularly regarding my gluten sensitivity. Whether you’re a fan of Mexican cuisine or just love great food in general, this is a must-visit spot in Palm Springs. We can’t wait...
