3 stars are more than generous. On the upside, the place was clean and appropriately adorned with seafood decor and ambiance with the exception of hip hop music playing instead of Cajun blues. The beer selection is fair and the 5 assorted bottle bucket is moderately priced at $24 but the wings were priced above average @ nearly $16 for 10 wings. That 's about all I could cheer about.
Just because you offer fried spicy food doesn't make you a Cajun restaurant. Maybe if I looked at the online menu, I probably wouldn't have been so disappointed with my dinner or the paltry selection of authentic Cajun table fare.
Our pleasant waitress wasn't really versed or knowledgeable of the items offered on the menu and would not provide, upon request, a tablespoon size sample of the coleslaw for my wife to sample without charging us for it. My wife was happy with her fried catfish basket ... a plus of the whole evening.
Puzzling, the "Happy Hour" was only available to patrons sitting at the bar and their "Crabby Hour" means they give one more 1/2 lb of Winn Dixie quality snow crabs when you order one pound for $32.99
The menu selection is at best scant and they were out of blue crabs (Florida blue crab season is year-round). As an appetizer I ordered their raw oysters. They are fresh-water farmed oysters that had little to no flavor or texture. The whole oyster was stuck to the shell instead of just at the foot. For dinner I ordered the 1 lb steamer bag of crawdads. I honestly believe that they included to two petite red potatoes and the corn on the cob in the 1 lb. total weight. I ordered them with the hottest spice level available "Fire". They must have forgot to put cayenne pepper in the spice mix because there was zero heat to it. The bugs (crawdads) came out and were served at a chilled room temperature. I prefer my crawdads steaming/piping hot. Since they were cooked from frozen, there was little to no chance of getting authentic steeped in flavor.
I asked about Jambalaya that I didn't on the menu but something I feel is a must for a Cajun restaurant and was told they only have gumbo with rice. I could go on but this pretty much covers my disdain. Will I go back? Probably as everyone should get a second chance
There is ample parking and take reservations for 10 or more patrons. Lastly, they charge an 8% sales tax on food and an additional 1%...
Read moreORIGINAL REVIEW POSTED 08-02-21 I have never eaten food this bad in my life. The oysters on the half shell are not even close to fresh. They slime out of the shell with no texture, flavor or firmness. The fried shrimp basket is a joke. The shrimp taste like someone fried cardboard. Almost no shrimp and a whole lot of breading. When you order oysters it usually takes 15-20 minutes at most decent restaurants because they need to shuck the shells. These oysters were served within 1-1/2 minutes. This means they were sitting out already opened. I left with a stomach ache. I didn't bother to complain. It won't do any good. They think they are doing a bang up job. There is no room for improvement when you think you are doing great. Part of the problem is the clientele there thinks that they are eating 5 star food. I have personally had better fried shrimp going through the drive in at Pop Eyes chicken. This food is not fit for consumption by human beings. The knuckle draggers that eat there thinks it's good just don't know any better. I would not give this spunk to my pets. They have found a nice location and will sling enough of this garbage to make a profit and keep their door open. If you are discerning with what you put in your mouth avoid this joint. I will not go back ever. The place had a grimey dirty feel to it. The kind of folks eating there are the same ones you see fishing the canals around South Dade with cane poles. They can have my share. Enough...
Read moreI had to give at least 1 star in order to leave a comment! I have been to countless Crafty Crab establishments and this one right here, is the WORST!!! From customer service to the taste of the food. The restroom, a totally disaster, dirty from the door to the sink (at about 7:30pm). I was with a party of 5 and I ordered the special for $45 which its only this price at this particular restaurant. The bag came half full. The corn was so hard and white (not yellow) which means it was bad corn. The muscles was 6 in total and I only had 1 in the bag (they wasn't in the bottom of the bag either), the eggs tasted as if they were just boiled and just dropped in the bag after everything was made. I am so disappointed with this place. My order was $120 and I was so disgusted when I left. We had to find the waiter several times, for refills and more napkins. I think this place was better off as a Red Lobster than Crafty Crabs, maybe if you made it look more like Crafty and not Red Lobster it would be better. To call this place, puts you in another type of mood, everything about this place is terrible. this place makes you not want to eat at another Crafty Crabs, but this was my first and last time,...
