Of all the restaurants that we frequent as a family, my sister decided to have us drive an hour south to celebrate her birthday at this dump of a place. I feel bad for her because she was really excited about it being that she specifically craved authentic Nicaraguan food and was suggested the spot by a friend. Unfortunately for her, this was a terrible suggestion.
For starters, our server (mid 50’s, reddish ponytail) had an awful attitude from the beginning. Really impatient, non-courteous, and a sense of being obligated to serve us as if it was inconvenient for her — mind you, we were a table of 8.
One would imagine, a well-mannered table of 8 adults would be something that a server would desire in these rough Covid times where restaurants are in dire need of business, and servers are losing their jobs left and right, but apparently not at this restaurant. No “thank you’s” nor “pleases,” just “what are you having” and “let me retire that plate.”
The food took well over 45 minutes to reach us. Appetizers were decent. Tostones burnt but the topping were tasteful. No offers for refills on our drinks. Server would disappear for 20 minutes at a time where Id have to personally stand up and ask another server for napkins. My non-confrontational parents kept justifying the lady’s attitude as “oh, thats just how Nicaraguan people are,” no, this is a business and we are paying customers seeking an experience, thats no excuse for having the NY sub shop type “what you want” rudeness in whats supposed to be a formal restaurant setting.
Mid-eating, my brother sneaks away to ask the server if they provided a birthday dessert where they typically light a candle and sing but she responded with an offended tone “no.” My sister’s fiancé simultaneously asked another server and the other server said “of course!” Inconsistency at its finest.
As we were packing up and ready to leave, my mother notices an old friend having dinner across from us so she decides to briefly greet her. Emphasis on ‘briefly.’ Immediately, the manager-appearing, older, miserable looking woman in purple with short red hair approaches her and rudely tells my mother in spanish “woman, put your mask on, whats wrong with you?” My mother obviously embarrassed, lifts back up her mask (which was only quickly lowered to clarify her muffled words). At that point, we were all leaving and decided to say bye to my mother’s friend as we walked out of the restaurant, to where the same unprofessional wrinkled ‘manager’ immediately approached us again and said “dont you guys realize that we’re in an epidemic (pandemic, actually), you cant gather up like this, you need to get going or sit down before you get us all sick.”
Mind you, none of us are sick. My sister consequently responded appropriately out of embarrassment to us as a family.
We spent well over $400. We even left the lousy waitress a decent tip as she stared at us literally standing two feet away while she waited, again, impatiently for us to fill out the bill. You know how typically, waitresses will walk away once they drop off the bill, not this woman, she stared at us from two feet away until we finished as in the “hurry up, Im waiting” sense.
Save yourself from this experience and don’t give this garbage establishment any money. When you have a rudely incompetent manager whose attitude radiates to their servers, they dont deserve people’s hard earned money. With so many servers in dire need of jobs, and restaurants dying out due to little traffic, lets support deserving business owners and...
Read moreToday ate at Los Ranchos the falls with my family. I just got off the Brightline to see my family we were hungry. We tend to eat here and have been for many years in miami locations. Today 12/30/23 - the waitress we had was very condescending and I may even say racist. I did not catch her name but she approached us in Spanish first and my mother and father are clearly not Hispanic and answered her in English. She continued in Spanish then changed to English. She was trying to upsell larger menu items which is normal but immediately became disrespectful when my father ordered a 12 oz over the presidente meal. My dad simply explained to her that he had the meal before and was too much for him and he was not happy with the way it was prepared last time. He said this in a normal way and proceeded to ask for the smaller cut. I am not sure the disconnect or why she became so defensive but she immediately came to the conclusion that money was the issue - presuming that we couldn’t afford the presidente meal and taking personal offense she stated that the food (referring to the presidente meal my father made a comment about) is cooked perfectly as if she cooked it! My mom and I were so confused we tried to diffuse her tone and told her that we love the restaurant and ate there for years! She rudely asked my dad “how do you want it cooked” and I was ready to get up and leave but my parents wanted to stay. She asked if we wanted machego cheese on our salad and I said sure then again condescendingly stated “it cost money like everything in America!” She clearly had an accent and asked “where we are from” my family answered her question- I wouldn’t have because I was already annoyed! My father asked her where she was from to be polite- she was a bit older and clearly Latina from her thick accent which is fine - we are from miami and enjoy every culture! My dad asked if she was Venezuelan and she replied “I’m born here in America im an American” in a brash tone. We were confused at why she was so upset with us! At this point I could clearly see she felt some type of way about us- so I began to speak fluent Spanish to her and ask her “wow you have a very Latina accent- so you’re telling me you were born and raised in the United States that’s wonderful!” she was alarmed that I spoke Spanish and her tone became slightly kinder. I am not Latin but it is rude to assume that any patron speaks the language especially when both my parents are clearly not Latino! I learned Spanish in school and growing up in miami! I wanted to get the manager right away because her questions and her lack of professionalism was about all I could take! In the spirit of the holidays and because my family has class unlike this service worker - they told me not to complain. The food was good the service not so much. As patrons of the restaurant for over 20 years both in the falls and bayside when it was there- we were so disappointed and I would never suggest for anyone to fire someone but if this woman is not great for your long standing business and I would highly suggest ethics and attitude training ASAP. However you handle it is your business but if you hire racist and condescending workers then I sadly- would not recommend anyone eating...
Read moreTerrible experience. One of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten in. This place was recommended as supposedly one of the best steakhouse restaurants. Extremely far from that. Let's start by saying that we arrived at 12:30-12:40pm, right after they open. My family and I were celebrating my son's graduation. We decided to ordered kid's food first as they were hungry. I ordered a New York stake (medium well), the server brought that plate 45-50mins after I put in the order. The steak was COMPLETELY DRY, worse than "well done". 3 people in our party order New York steak as well, the server told us "I'm sorry, but the chef just informed me that we don't have more New York Steak". I don't understand how a steak restaurant has no steak at 12:30pm, but okay, I guess. We decided to order "BBQ Costillas de Cerdo", the server told us "I am so sorry, we don't have that either". If it hadn't been, because we were with small children and they were hungry, I would have gotten up and left that restaurant. How can a steak restaurant be open for 45 minutes and have no steak to serve? We ended up ordering Steak Fajitas and Baby Churrasco. I would say the food was mediocre, considering the type of restaurant they claim to be. After 2+hours of overall bad serves, we asked for the bill, the total for 5 entries and 1 bottle of wine ($38) was $181.00. $181.00 for a burn new york steak, 3 steak fajitas and 1 8oz baby churrasco. This makes me want to cry. My husband asked to speak to the manager about the service and basically having no steaks to serve and he said "Oh wow! I don't know why the chef would said we don't have steak, we do have. I'm sorry to hear this, but thank you for coming". Ridiculous!! Do not come to eat at this restaurant, please. Save your money. Oh and I forgot to mention that we ordered salads as sides, and the salads came on hot plates. Disgusting! Everything. I don't even want...
