Sometimes finding good seafood in Florida is challenging, which is weird since we are surrounded by water. Look no longer. Golden Rule Seafood is both a seafood market with wonderful, well priced seafood (the shrimp for sale are as large as my forearm), and a great restaurant where ourdoor seating is plentiful and cool (literally, as they have a lot of fans.) We we were there on a Saturday night around 6:30. There was about a 15 minute wait, and then, we were seated under the gorgeous tiki right next to the koi pond with a small waterfall. It was my sister's bday, so we were happy to have a view. All the wait staff were wearing masks, even outside, which I was happy about, and the tables are well spaced.
We ordered drinks from the large drink menu. I got a strawberry basil cooler with vodka, and my sister got a Moscow Mule. Both were large and well made and came quickly.
Seafood here is the star. They have modern takes like what I got Seared Ahi tuna wontons. These had large chunks of fresh tuna on fried wontons with ponzu sauce. They hit the spot even though they were an appetizer. My sister got shrimp tacos. They come 3 to an order on soft shells, and were quite large. My sister loved hers. They have poke bowls and various types of shellfish too. They also have more traditional things like fried fish and fish sandwiches and ribs, My mom got fried snapper with fries that were almost as good as McDonalds. My mom ate all of the large serving of fish and enjoyed it a lot, and I really appreciated that our waiter gave us great recommendations and answered all our questions. I have heard the shrimp and grits here are really fabulous and the thing to get, but it was a hot night and that would have been a bit too heavy when none of us were that hungry. I'll be back for those and the coconut shrimp. Surprisingly, the desserts here are also special and not just a after thought. Our waiter recommended the salted caramel cheesecake or the Key Lime pie, which they get from Key West. My sister had the key lime pie and said it was beyond anything she has had in a long time. I got the salted caramel cheesecake, which had little pieces of Heath bar on top. It was better than Cheesecake Factory, and that is saying something! I was impressed. We took our time and relaxed a little after we were done and enjoyed the ambience and outdoors. No one rushed us out, which seems to be happening with restaurants that have outdoor seating. I will be back soon with a bigger appetite. I just wish it was closer, so I could shop for all my...
Read moreWe have been coming to the market at Golden Rule forever and we decided to try the restaurant for the first time. We were surprised to see a wait to to be seated, but then I thought that the food must be good if people are waiting. We sat at the bar and waited, and waited, and waited, for the bartender to even say anything. I get it, you're busy, you are serving drinks for the entire place, plus the people sitting at the bar, but some eye contact and a simple "be with you in a minute" goes a long way. Their prices are not cheap that's for sure. So, when I pay $20 bucks for a fish sandwich, it better be a damn good piece of fish. Well, it was the thinnest piece of fish I have ever been served at a restaurant, ever. So, a thin piece of fish meant that it was way over cooked. We didn't even eat the piece that was hanging off the edge of the bun. I wanted to take a picture, but I think the manager/owner was sitting at the table by the entrance. Also, the slice of tomato was like this off pale color, not like a fresh red color at all. Our side dish was not cooked all the way through. All in all, this was such a disappointing meal for us. Oh, but the pickle was good. Our service from the bartender was nothing special, he never introduced himself or said welcome or anything through our entire visit. We had more conversation with one of the waitresses as she passed by us after she kept picking up her drinks. The only things that made it enjoyable were the musician and the lush tropical landscaping, because the food did nothing for us and we won't be back. Also, Courtney you don't need to reply to this and we won't be giving you another chance. We work way to hard for our money to...
