05/23/23 Edit: NOOOOOOO!! 😢😢😢😢 the death of Mateo Style! They no longer have the delicious chilaquiles that made me fall in love with them... I'm now lost and don't know what to do or where to go for good chilaquiles. Deduct a star 😢😭

Original: O-M-G! SO good. I went there for the first time yesterday with my wife and friends. Everybody loved it. Skip down to the bottom if you just want to read about the food. I honestly don't ever leave reviews like this but I so enjoyed this place that I want to make sure they get all the business they can because they deserve it. Stay tuned until the bottom for one last little recommendation. **

The Restaurant: the place has a very clean, updated, and inviting look. According to one of the hostesses, it's only been around for about a year. It has a nice ambience. All of the staff are wearing masks and adhering to the new strict COVID-19 operating standards (everyone is wearing masks, they are open for dining-in but people are spread far apart, options for takeout, etc.)

The Staff: The staff was great, SO friendly. We were chatting with the hostesses and servers the WHOLE time we waited for our takeout order. Even after we got our food, we lingered for a few minutes talking. Cool people.

The FOOD: the people in my group got fajitas, maybe a quesadilla, and a burrito combo. Everyone seemed really happy with what they got. BUT you HAVE TO try the chilaquiles! That's what I got and they are the best chilaquiles I've had (at a restaurant, that aren't homemade). Being Mexican, my standards for Mexican food are very high. I have never had chilaquiles from a restaurant that weren't a soggy, cheesy, goopy mess. These chilaquiles are crunchy, a tiny bit spicy (for the average person, but the perfect little bit of spice for those who like spicy food) and delicious — just the way real chilaquiles should be. Go and try them! **BUT, a quick note before you do. The Chilaquiles normally come with steak and eggs as their protein. I have never had it this way. In order to blow your mouth's mind the way I did, you want to ask for the chilaquiles "Mateo Style". That's where they substitute the steak for chorizo, and you'll be glad you did 🤤. Enjoy!

• SIDE NOTE: "Mateo Style" doesn't actually exist, but ask for it anyway when you explain your substitution 😆. My hope is that they'll actually eventually add it to the menu as an official...

It all went downhill when my brother didn’t like the Barria tacos and told the server. She caught an attitude and proceeded to ask why being passive aggressive. And my brother is shy so he just kept saying he just didn’t like it calmly. She then then responded “ Because me and everyone in the back just had some so I don’t know why you don’t like it” took the plate away then walked to the back talking about us in Spanish with the lady that sat us at the table. Then I over heard them talking at the cash register she said “ It’s nothing else I can do” and put the receipt on the table and walked away.

Fast forward I needed a drink Straw for my drink, the server was at the cash register pretending like she couldn’t hear me asking for assistance. Mind you our table is right by hers and she wasn’t busy, restaurant empty as well. When she finally looked at us still standing at the register didn’t walk up to us by the way or respond she went back and got the straw like we asked with an attitude. Fast forward when it was time to go I asked for a to go plate, but she forgot the bag. At that time she was by the bar with her friend who walked away with the plate talking about us in Spanish. Before I even walked up to the bar the server was giving me the side eye, then I asked her for a bag politely.

She didn’t respond at all just gave me nasty looks and walked away. She sat people behind us and served them before giving us a bag. She took 10 mins to give us a bag. At this time the restaurant was still empty so she wasn’t busy at all she wanted to be petty. All this attitude was about not liking their tacos. Mind you I ate there before this bad experience. Do not go here. Their attitudes...

Called in an order for 8 tacos and was told 10 mins. I arrive and end up waiting for a total Of about 20 mins. I get home and realize I only got 6 tacos. I called and explained I was short 2 and she said no they were all there. As if I’m stealing a $2 taco.

I arrive and she had the other two already made. Which I never told her which two were missing. So clearly they forgot to place the container in the bag and messed up.

I explained k didn’t want the mow room temp tacos that I’d rather a refund. She stated she would make me fresh tacos. I told her I didn’t want them just reheated, either a refund or fresh.

I get home the second time and of course it’s a mess. 8 reheated tacos. The lettuce and everything was reheated. I called 5 times and she wouldn’t answer the phone.

I got back now a 3rd time for 8 regular tacos and explain that I didn’t want reheated tacos with hot lettuce I requested a refund or fresh. She claimed I was in a rush but it took just as long to reheat as it took to make them the first time.

So after an hour + of time back and for now she just wants to give a refund. Not attempt to correct the order, no offer to comp it and make FRESH food. Simple responded were too busy to make you fresh tacos I’ll just refund you.

The hostess/ manager over all was super disrespectful and didn’t value me as a customer or even my simple request for hot fresh food that I paid for.

Even when I sat at the bar for 20 mins waiting I couldn’t even get a water the first, second, or third time. There has to be someone above her who has some leave of experience with guest...
