Palo Alto Eats - Stanford Insiders' Picks! Perfect for Dates and Gatherings

Service is great and the place has very homey vibes, but their food is really just average at best. - chicken yakitori doesn’t look or taste like yakitori. Pretty overpriced considered it had no charcoal flavor at all. - for a la carte nigiri, I got the kanpachi and king salmon. I wouldn’t recommend the kanpachi (texture was a little off), but the king salmon was okay. The cuts were rather small though. - I got Chef Hide’s Special, which was a 6 piece tuna nigiri special with a “poke” appetizer at the time. The marinate tuna was nice and the otoro was very good (but it’s also otoro). The akami with avocado was actually very bad— there was something off about the fish and definitely not fresh. All the others were okay. Overall, it was a little under $100?… I feel like I could’ve gotten much more premium yakitori or sushi for that kind of money at other places. Fuki sushi is probably a 2-2.5 stars for me… but we’ll round up because the staff are so friendly, welcoming, and the service is fast.

It is about time that I write a review for my all-time favorite restaurant for the last 30+ years that I've lived in the Bay Area. I love that despite how many times I've been there and shown appreciation for the food, they never once asked me to write a review. Instead, the owner just focuses on providing the very best service and food. Recently, I tried the tatami room, and I think now that is where I'll always want to sit. It is so peaceful, and I feel that I am back in Japan. The hot toasted rice tea is comforting every time. The service is really good, and I especially want to thank Maryanne for memorizing our order! Finally, my daughter has a shellfish allergy so I appreciate that they take great pains to keep her food uncontaminated by shellfish. Some of my favorite foods there: the albacore sashimi ponzu appetizer, the fried whole fish appetizer, spicy scallop roll, uni (both from Japan and from Santa Barbara), toro, salmon nigiri sushi and hamachi nigiri sushi.

In the most important moment for meeting we have discovered a restaurant . On a sushi roll they are huddled together to make a wonderful decoration in unique, challenging way to get it be sold to many people who have visited here being captivated and overwhelmed in its a grand and striking exterior at the entrance and elegant and attractive interior decoration that have left all customers feeling great . They may have toiled on a production, giving it a grand scale we have seen in a famous destinationbin in China like a grand mountain , elastic valley of which many travers have visited . Our appite are enshrined by a sushi roll and in looking at it in admiration we are cheered and applauded and worshiped by its love for us with unrealistic colors ,unbeliable shape , heavenly smelling that are touching our hearts ,and that are made especially for special customers us to among us let ourselves be perfect men as our status are elevating as stars ,or celebrates at the time .They have produced in riches more than our images can picture , sushi, sashimi, ramen, upon ,chicken skewers will be ours ,taking on more meals dreamed of last night as it will be when are here .Majestic tables , fanatstic walls for rich coustomers us are set to embracing people who are used to and looking forward to when go out , making sure everything looks perfect in each positions when are in a resturant .A breathtaking restaurant will meet our demends when we have a meeting there . We stand out by its passionate design when we tried to find our valuabee .We have to take our customers to a dinner feast .On a more delicious food we will get assurance in striking a deal with them . We have appriciated a resturant in providing its best service to us and In the place we can go forward or backward because a deal depends on a place' air and food and our efforts to make them our customers . So we meet them in a resturant like this even it Is too far away from our company .When we meet them in a good restaurant and when we see they are happy we are happy .It is a well known restaurant for its good food to business men and all are satisfied by its unprecedented taste, scent, quality ,superiority , excellence. We get more happy when a resturant will give more service ,which exceeds our expectstion. We want a resturant to give us everything it has so we can make up our mind to come here again if a meeting could happen for a business deal to sell a company to us .Be patience and then harken well of their tidings untill we agreed on each other to sigin a paper and if we are not prepared well enough the other company gain ground so all circumstanc is very importan,we , a place to reach an agreement .We must imbued them with a sizable flattory that has long been boiled in a pot to be more liked to them than they have made for us in a pot in order to seduce us . Tactics are more important to cooperate with them by providing food they will like and surprised by our spending on them with great taste for them to agree on us and they will reevaluate us in a positive way.so all resturants are potential and effective for us to invite executives, commissioners , presidents, ceo to have a meeting with them for business martters , deals , compromise . Every restaurants should be prepared well enough for companies to provide them with best food , service , interiors in fanstic air that will never be passed out of our mind to come to it again and at every moment it should remind us of it wharever we are uopn other resturants for next visits and should not have been forgetten on us and must be passed on to our generation and it has became a stirring memory when they are coming out of our mind as a shape of great place that has defeated , acquired , made so many deals facing fearful angry , retaliation, insulting, threats when we are hanging on by a thread for taking...

Copied from my 2016 yelp review. Went on a Wednesday night with my grandparents (who live nearby and have been going there occasionally for years). We'd called ahead and the only opening they had was an hour later, which happened to work just fine for us. They seated us right away.

Pros: well labeled vegetarian dishes and they specified understanding that vegetarian means no fish, which was awesome since as other vegetarians know, that can be a problem as pescetarians have confused a lot of people about what vegetarian means. their veggie rolls extended beyond just cucumber and avocado and they actually had several interesting options it was all decently tasty - not amazing, but definitely good and enjoyable. pretty little rock and Japanese maple gardens made close around the windows with fences at their backs to provide a very lovely setting and block out the usual surroundings to create a very nice relaxing feel while it might be a con for some people, I have a small mouth and really enjoyed that the bigger, fancier maki rolls were smaller than other places because they actually fit in my mouth.

Cons: it was loud. Hearing the waitress was difficult, especially for my grandparents even though their hearing is pretty good and they don't generally have trouble hearing people other places. It also made talking a bit trickier while the food was good, it wasn't quite as good as the prices would indicate,. The total was a little over $150 for the three of us with 4 veggie rolls, 1 kaiso salad, 1 small single person sashimi starter, 1 miso soup, 1 sukiyaki, 1 samplery dinner with tempura and such, 1 bottle of fairly basic white wine, hot tea, and water. It didn't feel super overpriced - there wasn't the sense of being ripped off, just of paying a little bit more than was really appropriate for the quantity and quality and for all I know they might be renting the space and need to charge enough be able to cover Palo Alto rent. both my grandparents lamented that it wasn't as good as it used to be and my grandfather said that the sukiyaki wasn't as good as grandma's (it's definitely not a specialty of hers)

Overall, it was good, but not amazing and I definitely wouldn't mind going back at some point for more of the veggie rolls, but it won't be my new...

Our family went for my daughter's birthday; she wanted sushi and we thought we'd upgrade from our usual place. We regretted it. I'm not sure if it was because we had kids (7 and 4), but the service was pretty bad and the food didn't make up for it.

We were seated at the table closest to the entrance, which was ok, but I wondered if it was because we were a family and not the usual corporate crowd on a weekday night. The server was cold (my daughter really wanted to tell someone it was her birthday, but she wasn't friendly enough for us to offer that at any point in our interactions); I had to ask twice for hot tea; when we were told they were sold out of an appetizer, I asked for the menu to see if I might order something else, but it was never brought; and when our items were placed on the table the server pushed some appetizer plates rather abruptly aside with the incoming plates. And oddly, the server didn't seem very familiar with sushi (I asked if they served inari sushi and she responded "what is that?")

Between that, and the appetizers being quite disappointing, we won't be back. We ordered the "Kushiyaki Mori," described as rib eye beef and chicken skewers "served with a hibachi grill at your table." The rib eye was overcooked and hard to chew, and it was not served with a hibachi grill at the table; we didn't get an explanation as to why. We thought the kids would enjoy that part so that's why we ordered it -- I saw another table using a mini grill.

The highlight was the nigiri sushi -- quality was a notch better than the usual places -- and the rolls we tried were...
