New Sushi Spot Alert in the Bay Area! 🍣🫶 As someone who has become a sashimi fan and experienced high-quality raw fish from Omakase, l've become quite particular about quality and freshness. What surprised me here was how affordable everything was, from their sashimi, sushi, ramen, to bento boxes--while still maintaining high quality. I got their sashimi platter which came with thick-cut pieces. Although I usually prefer thin cuts, this was an exception because of how fresh it was. Usually, tuna isn't my favorite and I have to smother it with a lot of soy sauce, but this time I didn't have to use any for the sashimi pieces. I liked how each piece had a bit of lemony flavor and a little bit of wasabi (not too much). Besides the sashimi, we also tried the Toro Heaven Roll which actually tasted like heaven--by far one of the BEST sushi rolls l've ever had. There wasn't too much rice; it had more filling, and the toro piece on top was literally melt-in-your-mouth. For their bento boxes, they let you choose three items to customize--I chose the fish katsu, gyoza, and assorted tempuras. All of them were crisped to perfection, and they served house-made sauces with each of those appetizers. The tartar sauce was my favorite and paired so well with the fish katsu, kind of reminiscent of fish and chips. Lastly, their tonkatsu ramen broth was not too salty and light. I liked the pieces of pork-it was super thinly sliced and melt-in-your-mouth. The owner, Rita, was so nice and welcoming. I will definitely come back here again for their sashimi, sushi, and bento boxes. Honestly, if you're looking for affordable and high-quality sushi, I highly recommend checking out this new spot in the Bay Area!

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Kanji to show our appreciation to over 25 of our dedicated volunteers, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted by the warm and friendly staff, whose exceptional service made our evening truly special. One of the highlights of our meal was the Sushi Boat Sashimi. It was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. If you are a sashimi enthusiast, this dish is a must-try. The selection included yellowtail tuna, albacore, tuna, tai, salmon, ikura, and scallop, all expertly paired with perilla leaves and ultra-thinly sliced lemon. Each bite was a delightful burst of flavors that showcased the high quality and freshness of the fish. Another standout dish was the Fried Tofu. It was perfectly fried to a golden crisp on the outside while remaining super silky on the inside. The texture contrast was delightful, and it quickly became a favorite at our table. Despite our large party, the restaurant was spacious enough to accommodate several more large groups comfortably. The ambiance was lively yet relaxed, making it an ideal spot for gatherings of all sizes. Kanji delivered an exceptional dining experience with its friendly staff, superb service, and delicious dishes. Whether you are planning a large event or a more intimate meal, this restaurant is a fantastic choice. We left with full hearts and even fuller stomachs, grateful for time well spent in such a wonderful setting.

We ordered A LOT of appetizers - fried oysters, mixed tempura, karaage chicken, gyoza, cucumber salad, croquette - and a few rolls like the star and salmon skin. My husband and I noticed the quality right from the start. All the fried apps came out perfectly crisp and fresh - made to order so nothing was cold or limp like some other places. The sushi was delicious and expertly crafted. By the end of the meal my husband said, “we would come here every week if we lived in the area.” We live in Oakland and came to stay in the area for a weekend conference. As someone who grew up eating this food with my family in Hawaii, I am extremely picky about the freshness and quality of everything - from the seafood to the rice and nori - it definitely delivered EXCELLENCE. We also noticed the photos and keepsakes decorating the restaurant and it reminded me of home. A beautiful reminder of the significance of honoring our ancestry as we bring that wisdom and influence into our lives today. PS - I could not get a great picture of the food because we were eating it so fast! Delicious and satisfying!

My family and I had such a bad experience here, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody.

We got seated relatively quickly, but then didn’t receive any attention for the next 20 minutes. They eventually gave us water, and then left us alone for another 10 minutes.

We then ordered appetizers, drinks, and our dishes. The drinks came at a fairly normal pace, but we didn’t start to get our food for the next 20 minutes. They brought out 3 of our 5 dishes and didn’t bring out the other 2 for an hour.

We had asked them 3 times about those 2 dishes and they seemed unconcerned and made almost no progress. From the time we sat down, it took a full hour and a half, if not more, for everybody to get food.

We were eating around a time when it seemed mostly full, but definitely wasn’t extra busy. Not to mention, several couples and groups came and left before everybody started eating.

We eventually found out that they gave our food to the wrong table, and yet didn’t communicate that at all to us.

When we finally got our food, the two in our family who could see the full restaurant saw our food grabbed and brought to our table, and it shockingly seemed like our food had been sitting there for a while.

If you decide to go to this place, you should know what you’re...
