Traditional Japanese decor and menu with some unique items.
The service girl was really sweet and friendly. Some items, like the onigiri, took quite a while to come out.
We enjoyed all of the food and nothing was worse than 3/5.
Scallop scewer with tomatoes- deliciously grilled and seasoned scallops with sumptuous tomatoes to cut the sweetness. I love scallops and these were the best I've had in a while. My only complaint is how small they were - 3 small pieces for $9 was on the high end for off strip, but the quality was worth it for me
Potatoes bravas - crispy, salty, with a little heat. Liked them but the saltiness was inconsistent. Some pieces too salty, others not enough.
Charred broccoli - came with a unique, tasty, blackish cream sauce. Good but overall a bit mushy.
Pork and peaches - recommended by the setver. Really tasty! The simple grill and seasoning let the natural flavors speak for themselves. The pork had just the right amount of char, lean, and fat in every bite and was well balanced with a sweet sauce. The peaches (nectarines) provided a great palate cleanser with enough uniqueness and complexity. Definitely a dish we would come back for!
Rice onigiri - simple and delicious, not much to add.
Honey toast with mango filling and matcha - we shared a half portion order and it was still pretty huge. The honey toast is a bit stodgy if you don't get any matcha cream or mango jelly with your bite so I'd recommend trying to get all of the components in each bite. Really tasty once everything is put together, and the matcha cream is just light enough, and mango jam just tart enough to fill out the stage set up by...
Read moreMy experience at Izakaya Tora was a culinary journey that transported my taste buds to the heart of Japan. The menu's artful fusion of traditional izakaya dishes and modern twists left me intrigued and delighted. The sashimi was impeccably fresh, each slice melting in the mouth with an oceanic sweetness. The robata-grilled skewers offered a symphony of smoky tenderness, with gentle and bold seasonings.
The service was attentive and the staff's knowledge of the menu and willingness to offer recommendations were a welcomed touch. While the ambiance captured the cozy izakaya vibe, a touch more authenticity in decor would enhance the overall experience. Despite these minor quibbles, the restaurant's dedication to capturing the essence of Japanese izakayas deserves praise. In a city teeming with dining options, this new establishment has carved a promising niche worth savoring. I look forward to...
Read moreGreat spot for late night dining. Usually, the parking lot is crazy whenever I come to the area. I was here after 10 pm and the lot had a lot more spaces than I thought would be. Service was good. Service was good. David was nice and attentive.
Food: Tempura Mushroom Fries Chili Crisp Tofu Pork Belly Skewers Spicy Tuna Roll
Some pieces of the pork belly was hard however, the flavor was delicious Right amount of salt. The mushroom tempura was a No for me. I didn't like that it was so soft. Not Crispy at all. The spicy Tuna was nice and clean. I enjoyed every bite. Lastly, I enjoyed the chili crisp tofu. The Tofu was regular in texture. I enjoyed dipping it into the chili oil. Seemed like it had schezuan oil.
Overall, a great spot and I'll definitely return for...
