To preface this review, I have done afternoon tea around the world. This has been by far the most disappointing experience. The dress code is "smart casual," but it's not really enforced.
I'm not sure if they've recently redone the menu, but it was underwhelming. First, I'll cover the positives. The dessert selection was varied and offered something for every palette. My particular favorite was a semi-sweet chocolate tart with a white chocolate disk over the filling and topped off with a passion fruit jelly. The scones were also delicious. There were cranberry and plain scones. They came with clotted cream, lemon curd and raspberry jam. My favorite was the lemon curd as it was light and tart.
The negatives were the finger sandwiches. We were only offered two, which I've never encountered at any afternoon tea. Typically, you receive a varied selection on finger sandwiches, but this service was lacking. There was one ham sandwich and one salmon. The salmon sandwich was okay. The sandwiches were also served with a bizarre cone? It was a sesame cone with sweet fig jam and a cheese flower. The cheese flower was pungent and had a strong flavor. I almost gagged and found myself having to eat more of the fig jam to drown out the flavor of the cheese. It was a rather unpleasant experience. I felt that the sandwiches and the cones definitely alienate a lot of guests who expect a more traditional afternoon tea.
Another issue was that the table was coffee table height and made for uncomfortable seating. As a result, there were crumbs everywhere despite our efforts to maintain cleanliness. The tables were also quite small and made our area look cluttered.
Service was friendly and the tea selection was good. Our tea did grow cold and it took a while before someone offered us fresh pots.
Overall, I would not recommend afternoon tea service at the Waldorf Astoria as is. Maybe once the menu is redone or there is a special seasonal menu, the experience would...
Read moreTea for three! I brought my family for tea to celebrate my mother's birthday on Father's Day. Upon exiting the elevator on the 23rd floor, we were amazed at the breathtaking view of the Strip from the Tea Lounge. We were promptly seated toward the back of the lounge, but felt comfortable enough to get up and take a closer look at the view. As a local, I was keen to experience the lounge, as I have visited many tea rooms, including The Peninsula and the Hotel Bel-Air, both in Los Angeles. The experience was mixed. The food and service were both stellar. Our tea server was courteous and knowledgable. She answered all questions and provided a thorough presentation of all beverages and food. We started with Bellinis for my parents to toast our celebration. We then ordered three different teas, as per the recommendation of the server. We all concurred that the Vanilla Rooibos was the most aromatic and devine of the three teas we tried. We also liked the fruitiness of the Mad Hatter. The scones were served warm and tasted wonderful, especially with the clotted cream and berry compote. The food overall was a total knockout, especially the dessert plate. Unfortunately, our experience did include a disappointment. The staff wore gloves and worked hard to clean after each reservation; however, the overall cleanliness of the carpets, walls, and restrooms was not in line with the expectations one would generally have of a four or five star establishment. The carpets had stains, which I understand can build up in a food serving establishment, but the stains were quite noticeable. The walls showed significant hand prints, which again, I recognize could have been built up by our 2 pm tea time. The restrooms, however, were a big disappointment. There were towels on the floor, messy mirrors and counters. Simply not what I expected. So, would I visit again? Absolutely. It was a wonderful experience overall, and perhaps it will be an even better experience on...
Read moreI've been delinquent on many of my reviews so I'm now playing catch-up to several places that only left a positive impact to my family and I. And since the business created such a lasting memory for us, I figured I could return the favor to them in hopes that they'll remain open in Las Vegas for an infinite duration.
We tried this Tea Lounge back in 2021 and remembered how outstanding the experience was. The quality of the food and tea was hands-down magnificent! At first, I was worried about coming here and would want to visit a buffet (when they were all open) afterwards because I was still hungry. But that wasn't the case for me - the quantity of food was adequate! In the beginning, I was overwhelmed with the amount of tea choices which for some, could be annoying, and for others, it could be great. I didn't expect everyone to get their own tea pot which was awesome. It's hard not to think of Mrs. Potts when you're sitting there sipping on tea, only to realize that "Chip" comes alive in your hands (reference Disney's Beauty and the Beast). The scones, pinwheels, macaron, and sandwiches were phenomenal. But what really created that lasting memory for us is how relaxing the environment was. Between the subtle noise level and magnificent views outside of the oversized windows, it definitely is captivating! The staff working here were so friendly and explained everything to us without getting annoyed by all of our questions and requests - thank you for that!
If you're visiting Las Vegas (LV), make a reservation here before you leave home. If not, make the reservation as soon as your airplane's wheels touches the runway upon landing. And if you find yourself really excited about being in LV and forget to make that reservation while the plane is taxiing to your gate, then do it when you get to your hotel room. Regardless, make the reservation ahead of time because I highly recommend this place to everyone; both locals...
