I generally enjoyed my time at the Waldorf Astoria Spa. I have been making my way around other spas on the Vegas strip - my preferred experience is to purchase a day pass to relax and use the amenities. For this spa, I paid $120 per person. The pass is $100 for non-guests, plus a 20% service charge - so $120 total. I think it's $75 + 20% if you are staying at the Waldorf. I did have an issue with my stay, but for the most part I still enjoyed it. I'll describe my issue first.
This spa, like every other spa I've been to, has policies around speaking volume and phone usage. The women's locker room and wet amenities area is entirely clothing-optional and to my knowledge phones are not to be used in that area. The entire time I was at the spa - which was about 10am to 5pm - there was a duo of women who were on their phones the whole time. But I don't just mean using their phone to pass the time quietly to themselves - they were taking facetime calls, on speakerphone, all day. All day. And not a single time did I see the staff approach them to ask for their phones to be put away. To be fair, I didn't ask them to either, but I shouldn't have to. I chose instead to do my best to not use the same space as them. However, at the end of the day when we are all showering and getting ready to leave, it felt quite violating to have someone on facetime with a man in the locker room where I'm showering and getting dressed. It felt very invasive and inappropriate. It was so disappointing that the staff didn't enforce the cell phone and speaking volume rules in the spa, because the staff was truly amazing in every other way. Other spas I've attended have shown no issue enforcing their cell phone rules, especially in the clothing-optional areas (shoutout to the Wynn, they don't mess around!). In all honesty, this is the biggest reason that I'll be choosing other spas in the future and even repeating others that I've visited before I choose to come back to the Waldorf. On to the rest of my review, as I did have a generally good experience when I wasn't in the same room as the speakerphone girlies.
This spa was really beautiful overall. There is so much natural light and you can see out to the Vegas Strip while you're at the spa. I've had some spas that don't have any windows to outside, and it's fun to have different options. For this experience I did enjoy the view and the light.
Some of the amenities were not available during my visit, seemingly out of order - I think they were various types of showers. The amenities I did partake in were the vitality pool, the relaxation room, the steam room, the... laconium(?) (not as hot as a sauna but with heated benches), the heated stone loungers, plus I used the shower and vanity areas at the end of my stay.
The vitality pool was cool in theory but weak in execution. The "bed" structures inside the pool are too deep and super awkward to lay in because you just end up floating slightly above them. No benches either so you just kind of sit perched on the structures? Pleasant temperature but very awkward to exist in.
Relaxation room was great, I loved the blankets on the beds and being able to just look out at the strip. Loved that I could raise my feet on the bed, too. The snacks here were lacking compared to other spas, but the stuff I tried was tasty so it was fine. Lack of coffee was disappointing and the cafe downstairs was waaaaay overpriced, even for Vegas.
Staff was amazing, other than the aforementioned cell phone issue. They were quick and attentive, anticipating something I might need and offering it in advance. They were incredibly kind and any consumables in the spa were always quickly refilled, from iced towels to water bottles and so on. So disappointing they allowed people to facetime though... too bad.
Overall I did have a good day at the spa, but for the price, I found enough of the experience to be disappointing that I probably won't return anytime soon. I'd recommend going to the Wynn instead for a better executed version of this experience for the same...
Read moreBefore it became the Waldorf Astoria, this spa was located in the Mandarin Oriental boutique hotel next to the Aria and was one of the few Forbes rated 5-star spas on the Las Vegas Strip (there were only 4 at the time). Back when the spa was under the Mandarin Oriental banner, one was treated here with the kind of ritzy comfort that brand was known for. Upon entering the spa, you'd be served hot herbal tea while you removed you shoes and got comfortable while waiting for your host to escort you down to the locker rooms. Then, you'd don an exceptionally comfortable robe and proceed to either enjoy the spa facilities (which are top notch) or receive one of the many fine treatments available. Overall, it was an amazing and luxurious experience both for vacationers and locals looking to pamper themselves.
There was some concern among fans of the Mandarin Spa that quality would drop once the Waldorf Astoria took over the hotel. However, I'm happy to report that is not the case. Though the spa is currently without a Forbes rating (because they have to be evaluated under the new management), all the facilities are still at the level of quality they were before the change-over. Yes, the flare of the Asian-inspired music and decor that the Mandarin was known for is gone, but the remodeled Waldorf Spa is still as comfy and beautiful as ever. And though the names on their treatment menu have changed, you can still get the same top-notch treatments this world-renown spa is famous for.
The actual facilities themselves have not really changed. You still have the same steam rooms and saunas there, as well as the rain shower room (amazing) and the heated infinity pools with one of the most breathtaking views of the Strip available in any spa. There's also a Hammam chamber (for a unique Turkish bath treatment that you can get solo or as a couple) and plenty of wonderful showers and bath products to clean and shave with. The spa even offers "disposable bathing suits" in case you're too shy to walk around in your birthday suit. And luckily, the new Waldorf robes are just as comfy and luxurious as the Mandarin ones were.
The real star of the Spa, though, are the treatments offered by their first-class staff of spa therapists. I have to admit, I've never been one for massages, but my trips to the Waldorf's spa have changed my mind. Their detoxing foot treatments are some of the best I've ever had and never fail to put me in a state of nirvana. If you're ever looking for a great foot treatment, ask for Jude. She's the best! By far my favorite therapist at the spa. (She not only is good at the foot treatments, her skin care treatments are amazing as well!)
I have no doubt that when it comes time for Forbes to update their ratings, the Waldorf Spa will once again achieve that coveted 5-star rating. It certainly deserves it. I think my one complaint, if I had to have one, is that the prices here are a bit high, so you really do need to be willing to indulge yourself if you want to afford these high-quality treatments the spa offers. But then again, most things on the Strip are over-priced, and you don't usually get nearly this quality of service at other Strip spas, so I guess this is to be expected. Then again, you DO get what you pay for at the Waldorf Spa, which is an awesome experience. I always walk out of there feeling like a million bucks, so to me, the expense is well worth it.
I would highly recommend this spa to anyone looking to spoil themselves while on The Strip. It's a high end (but low key) out-of-the-way facility that not a lot of vacationers know about, and that makes it cool. Whether you're visiting town or live here (like me), the Waldorf Astoria Spa is definitely worth checking out...
Read moreThis spa was an incredible, relaxing experience in the hustle and toxic behaviors of Las Vegas. It’s a little tough to get to but the attendants along the way help you. You are greeted at check in and offered a beverage while you wait to be taken on a tour of the premises. There are lots of towel and water stations all over. There are lockers, showers, toilets and stations to dry your hair/apply makeup with mirrors and hair dryers and flat irons included. After that there is a beautiful whirlpool tub with recliner type features built in so you just lay in a reclining position while the whirlpool does it’s job. There is a rest area with blankets that you can relax in or head to prior to your service. I believe one of the features was down when I went, but there are two cold water shower experiences, a slightly warm salt room and then a very steamy steam room. Outside of this area is a constant revolving ice machine churning out ice for cool face towels, which feels great after sweating out in the steam room. There is also a warm recliner bed area but I did not use these. I received a massage from Julie and it was nothing short of fantastic. I told her my preference for deep tissue and it was definitely one of best and most effective I’ve had. The bed has nice warmers and there is relaxing music in the background. I especially love the zero gravity feeling when you’re face up for your massage. There were a few nice features like warm weighted sacks when supine to relax you and a warm foot rub. I do like when you get a warm neck roll or eye mask but that doesn’t take away from this experience. When I went it was fairly empty so it almost felt like I had the entire place to myself. My only gripe would be that I didn’t love the shampoo/conditioner/body wash, and they had body lotion but no facial lotion (I asked an attendant and was told they do not carry this). So plan on bringing your own if possible. Overall, this is a wonderful five star experience and I can’t wait to return. Well...
