Please note: this is my first visit ever to a Culver's Restaurant.
I was looking for a bite to eat and had decided that a burger or burrito just wouldn't do, that I wanted something different without spending too much money. I was about to head elsewhere when I remembered a conversation with a coworker who said I might be surprised by Culver's.
For a year I lived within walking distance of this restaurant. For a year I received mailers and ads in the paper with coupons for this place and for a year I never went. Why? Because the burgers in the ads didn't appear appealing.
But then I remembered Culver's also offers non-burger related meals, such as fish and chips. And who doesn't like fish and chips?
So, I made my way here and walked in to ... what appeared to be a small town diner that someone remodeled to look nicer. Not to say the interior was bad, it just had that ambiance about it that reminded me of a Captain D's restaurant holding out against the modern world in a small town.
I was quickly greeted and I let the girl at the register know I was a first-timer. She told me to take my time and when I asked what was good here a young man off to the side said, "Everything." (I think we can both agree that's not true)
I found the fish and chips and ordered them, was given a number and a cup (which I didn't know you had to pay for the drink separately from the 'meal').
Surprisingly, the iced tea was good. Usually when a restaurant has the stand alone tea dispensers the tea tastes old or sour. Here the tea was good - real good. They were out of small cup lids though, which was inconvenient.
I found a table and the food eventually came out. It looked ovay, but I was dismayed at the quantity of coleslaw and fries. The fish looked darker than I prefer and the tartar sauce was prepackaged and mass-produced.
The fish was ... okay. It wasn't bad, per se, but the breading was dark brown, nearly the color of a cola and far too thick and greasy. Very greasy, which left me wondering if I would die from my arteries clogging right there in the restaurant.
The fries were crinkle cut, which I like for the texture and the coleslaw was a bit too creamy.
While it wasn't great, it was good enough to warrant another visit on another day to see if I caught them at a bad time or not.
The wifi here...
Read moreLet me start by saying I have never had a problem at any other culvers location. I love your food and as far as fast food goes, Culvers is up there at the top in my opinion. This location, however, is underperforming. I have waited over 30 minutes to receive my food on multiple occasions. One time it was made and they just lost it for some reason and after 5 inquiries, they finally found my cold order and handed it to me. I always keep my fingers crossed that the food will be lukewarm and I will receive my fries. All of this has not pushed me to write a review yet. I'm generally pretty easy going. Tonight however, pushed me over the edge. I didn't need a drink with the kids meal, my daughter wanted ice cream. I told the server over the speaker box this with an "upcharge me or whatever" added in the mix. She then went on to lecture me for the next minute about how i had to get a drink with the kids meal and the kids meal comes with a token for custard. "Sure, whatever... water I guess and the custard and we're good." The custard didn't come with the order, obviously, why would I have such high expectations after daying chocolate custard 5 times before reaching the window. I went back through the drive through and ordered the custard. Same lady at the counter, didn't acknowledge that I had to come through a second time(not busy), but she sure had a couple minutes to tell me about their mandatory kids drink policies. There is a Freddy's across the street. If you want my opinion, you should probably just go there. I will be from this point forward. Oh, and surprise#2, no fries when I got home... Cool, don't want anything for free culvers, just wanted to let you know this location is an infection...

Culver’s is not my favorite type of fast food, but my kids like it so we go sometimes. Today we went through the drive-thru and took our food home to eat. And my chicken was missing. You should know that I am cursed. This happens to me probably 80% of the time when I get food on the go—MY food is missing or totally wrong. It’s literally a joke in my family and at work. So my bad for not checking before I left. Anyway, I called to let them know I was coming back for my chicken and they were very apologetic and said they would have it ready when I got there. When I went inside to pick up the missing chicken, they had prepared a “variety pack” of 4 pints of custard for me to take as apology for having to come back for the rest of my order! And we had a good laugh about my takeout curse.
I previously had a similar situation at—ahem—a nearby competitor, and let me just say the experience was night-and-day different. You know what you’re getting with the food. In this case the excellent customer care impressed me. I’ll go back knowing IF there is a problem, they’re going to make it better than right, and I appreciate that, especially, you know, given that I have this lovely little...
