So much fun! First time trying this kind of place out and it wont be the last time I hit up Thrashin' Axes.
We had signed up online. Make sure you sign the waver on the website, which we did to save time. Upon arrival however, there wasnt clear instruction on where to go to check in (go to the counter to the left where theres Tshirts and stuff to purchase). The gentleman that checked us in us was really nice. He showed us how to work the digital targets, went over some basic rules, and demonstrated some throwing techniques. I liked bar tender too. She was very sweet.
The atmosphere of the place was relaxed and fun. Overall, it doesn't really matter if you're terrible and can't stick the axe. We found that we got better the more we threw, and that seemed the case at the other lanes we were side by side with. And let me tell you, we really sucked at first and had a great laugh, but its exhilarating when you finally get a good hit! And another! So satisfying to hear that thud as the axe bit buries itself into the wood. It may have been time for new boards however as they seemed fairly beat up and I wondered if it was part of the reason we had issues with some of our throws that we felt should have stuck.
Regardless, by the end of the experience, I wanted to sing Norse drinking songs and braid my hair like Lagertha (Vikings reference.. if you know, you know).
They also have duck pin bowling which we didn't try, I might give it a go next time. And we noticed that theres a mini break room. Not like to stop work and get coffee.. like a BREAK room. As in, putting on protective coveralls and goggles so you can go break stuff. I was tempted to ask about it but, it was a bit warm in there already. I didnt fancy wearing a full white hazmat looking suit when I was already hot. I mean.. its fall in Colorado so its not uncommon for doors and windows to be open in the evening at establishments. Id admit that cooler air would have been appreciated. Definitely wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a tad sweaty in if youre throwing axes. Its a physical game afterall.
Theres a great selection of foods to snack on. And as for the bar, some very tasty adult drinks. I just wish there was better selection of liquors available. A better range of scotch? Glenn Fiddich or Macallan would have put the experience over the top for me!
I seriously cant wait to go back.....
Read moreWe went to Thrashin Axes to celebrate a special event with friends. The location is great and there was ample parking. I made reservations on Saturday morning for Saturday afternoon. The concept of axe throwing, duck pin bowling and a rage room is great. However, aside from the wait staff, their employees left something to be desired. When I arrived EARLY, I was told that unfortunately they already started the clock running because "We were late". The employee only relented on the 20/60 minutes of axe time when I showed them the confirmation email. THEN they went and cleaned the dirty tables on the axe lanes they tried to charge me for.
I made a reservation for 7 but only 6 were able to make it to our event. They did not offer a refund for the 7th person. We were here to celebrate so I was not going to argue with them (plus I knew one person might not show), but $50.00 of goodwill on a $700.00 tab would have been nice - Thrashin Axes definitely missed an opportunity to earn 6 loyal customers/fans of their establishment.
When it came to Duck Pin Bowling, the machines/rackers tangled several times causing us to wait for their employees to untangle them. No problem except they do not allow you to finish your frames for a couple of minutes when the time expires like they do at a traditional bowling alley. We probably lost 10 minutes of bowling time waiting for someone to untangle the pins. This is not a deal breaker considering there could be others waiting (there were not), but something patrons should be aware of. We ended up paying for additional time because we enjoyed the experience.
We had a lot of fun, it is a unique experience and change from the typical gathering. The reservation and waiver system seemed to work well online but in the end, it turned out to be a disapointment. The servers were attentive and the food/snacks were...
Read moreWe walked in to make a reservation around 2:30 today. We were told we'd need to come back at 5:00 for the reservation they were setting for us. No problem, we kept ourselves busy in Parker for a couple hours. When we returned at 5:00, for our reservation, we were told that the owner made our reservation at the same time someone was booking online and that cancelled our reservation with no notification, and we no longer had a reservation. It sounds like this is a known issue as the people at the desk didn't seem surprised at all. They offered for us to bowl for 90 minutes while we waited for a lane to be available, but we weren't interested in spending 3 hours there after already waiting 2.5 hours. They did offer a discount for our next visit, but I don't think I want to risk it again. Bottom line, I would not suggest trusting their reservation system no matter how you make a reservation with them. It might just be a waste of time. We were able to get into a place nearby where we were treated nicely and were able to throw right away. In response to the owner's response about not guaranteeing walk in space: I understand that you can't guarantee a walk in, and that wasn't an issue; we were happy to come back later. But when you make a reservation for us, and tell us we can come back in 2 hours, but then we can't do that, and are told to wait another 90 minutes, it is disappointing. Since you know it's an issue, there should be something setup to prevent this from happening. If you had asked me to give a card number or go online to reserve it, I would have. But I wasn't told anything about your online system being the better place to do that than in person, with the owner of...
